Private Detective: Employee Stole $30K From Store Safe

Police in Versailles are investigating a theft of thousands of dollars from a Midway gas station.

The crime occurred overnight at the Shell gas station off Leestown Road. The manager of the store tells LEX 18 that the theft was committed by their own handyman and that the entire thing was caught on surveillance camera.

Managers say the handyman, identified as Greg Smith, was working on ceiling fixtures last night when this theft happened. Smith allegedly broke into the office, got into a safe and stole possibly more than $30,000.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Smith was employed by the Midway Food Mart for about four months as the company handyman. Previously, managers say he took the company truck and disappeared for two days before bringing it back.

Last night, investigators say Smith unplugged a surveillance camera and proceeded to unlock the office door through the ceiling tiles.

Police say after breaking into the safe, he took the keys to the same truck and left the store with about three days’ worth of cash deposits.

Managers say Smith is driving a black 2006 Ford F-150, owned by the owners of the gas station. Versailles Police are actively searching for him. If you know his whereabouts, you are asked to contact law enforcement.

Private Detective: Shooting Death of Missing Woman’s Father Investigated as “Possible Homicide”

The shooting death of a Nelson County man is being investigated as a possible homicide, according to the Kentucky Standard newspaper. The newspaper cites private sources who are close to the investigation in their report.

The shooting victim has been identified as 54-year-old Tommy Ballard, the father of Crystal Rogers, who has been missing since July of 2015. The coroner tells LEX 18 that it appears that Ballard was shot in the chest and the bullet exited his back. Ballard was shot and killed during a hunting trip Saturday morning off Ed Brent Lane in Bardstown.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

At this point, Kentucky State Police will only say that they consider the case a death investigation. Ballard’s family members tell LEX 18 they do not believe the shooting was an accident.

Ballard’s daughter, Crystal Rogers, is a Nelson County mother of five who has been missing for more than a year. It is unclear if the shooting was related to her unsolved disappearance, but family members say Ballard was currently recruiting people to help with another search for her body.

If you have any information on the shooting death of Tommy Ballard, or the disappearance of Crystal Rogers, call police immediately.

Missing Person Family Members Believe Remains Found Belong to Missing Casey County Woman

An anonymous tip received by the family of a missing Casey County woman may lead them to the bittersweet answer they’ve been wanting for more than a year.

Whitney Copley went missing nearly 14 months ago. Her family tells LEX18 they are confident human remains found in a wooded area behind the Dogwalk Market off Highway 127 in Dunnville belong to her.

Whitney Copley was last seen September 28th, 2015 in the area where the remains have been discovered.

“She had actually been seen on the dogwalk camera there, walking behind dogwalk,” said Whitney’s sister, Sarah Copley

Whitney told her family she was going to a party, and never came home. The family members say a few days ago, they received an anonymous tip.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“We actually had received a tip about this skull in the woods in this area,” said Sarah.

The Copleys passed on the information to investigators and between Saturday and Sunday, the Copleys say investigators recovered nearly an entire skeleton, as well as clothes consistent with what Whitney would have been wearing.

“We’re pretty sure you know, that it’s her but, we’re just waiting for the positive identification to come in for us,” said Sarah.

Family members are hoping that identification will provide the closure they’ve been seeking for more than a year. They also hope it will help investigators understand what happened.

“They told us if anyone was involved that they were going to try and charge them with whatever they can charge them with, especially holding evidence because it’s been so long,” said Sarah.

The state medical examiner is working to positively identify the remains. Then, a forensic research facility in Knoxville will try and determine the exact circumstances of what led to the death.

The Copley family tells LEX18 News it could take up to 6 months to get all those test results back but, they tell us investigators say they should be able to I.D. the remains by Thanksgiving.

Pedophile Tracking 76 Year Old Man Will Spend Life in Prison in Maryland

A 76-year-old man convicted of sexually abusing a Baltimore boy, 11, was sentenced to the rest of his life in prison.

Jerome Floyd, 76, was given the maximum 45-year sentence on August convictions of sex abuse of a minor and a second-degree sex offense.

“As a mother, I’m mortified that this man would have the gall to prey upon the vulnerabilities of an innocent 11-year old child, which is why I am grateful that this sexual predator will no longer see the light of day,” State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby said in a statement.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

In April 2014, prosecutors say, Floyd saw the victim waiting for a bus to school at Mondawmin Mall. Floyd approached and showed him a video of a magic trick on a portable device. Floyd followed the victim onto the Maryland Transit Administration bus and sat next to him. Floyd was waiting at the boy’s bus stop upon his dismissal from school. Floyd then bought the boy snacks at a nearby store, then took him to Lexington Market for some food, then to an Inner Harbor candy shop. The victim testified that the two “watched birds,” then the child took the bus home after having been persuaded by Floyd the following day.

The next day, the boy left his Central Park Heights Home without telling his family. Floyd took him to his apartment in the 500 block of Preston Street, then bought him Chinese food and let the victim play video games and play with Floyd’s cell phone. Floyd sexually assaulted the boy while they were watching movies, before they fell asleep.

The following day, Floyd took the victim to Arundel Mills and gambled at the casino while a child played at an arcade. He retrieved the boy and went back to Mondawmin Mall, where the victim took a bus home home.

All along, the victim’s mother had been frantically searching for her son.

“The mother had formed a search party that consisted of friends, family and people in the neighborhood,” Assistant State’s Attorney Seth Giller said in a statement. “She was extremely worried about her child, and the only reason she didn’t call the police right away is because she was under the impression that she had to wait 24 hours before filing a missing person’s report. After checking a website, and learning that she did not have to wait a full day, she immediately called the Baltimore Police.”

The boy told his family about the man he only knew as “Mr. Hollywood,” and shared Floyd’s whereabouts with police. The boy identified Floyd in a photo array, and police found a bag of cell phones and the boy’s jacket in Floyd’s home.
