Wrongful Death Remains of Possible Serial Killer Victim Exhumed

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed investigators have exhumed the body of a person that could be a victim of a serial killer.

In a news release, Dickinson County Sheriff Gareth Hoffman says the Kansas Bureau of Investigation notified his office of a possible match between unidentified remains found near Upland in Dickinson County in 1974 and a person reported missing from Tulsa, Okla. in 1974.

“Investigation conducted by the sheriff’s department determined it necessary to exhume the remains of the unidentified victim to attempt to determine if the remains were in fact the missing person,” Hoffman says.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and the KBI exhumed the remains Wednesday, assisted by a forensic anthropologist and employees of the Abilene Cemetery and a local funeral home.

Hoffman says the remains will be sent to a laboratory to compare them to the information provided in the 1974 missing-person case in Tulsa.

The KBI-conducted investigation in 1974 identified serial killer Cecil Henry Floyd as the suspect in connection to the case involving the remains found in Dickinson The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says that, investigative reports indicate Floyd admitted to killing 11 people: four in Florida, one in Kansas, one in Nebraska and five in Indiana.
