A northeast Kansas man faces more than 30 years in prison after being convicted of sex crimes against children.

The state attorney general’s office said in a release Wednesday that 42-year-old Heath Umphenour was found guilty in May in Doniphan County court of charges including aggravated indecent liberties with a child, aggravated criminal sodomy and sexual exploitation of a child.

The office says the crimes occurred between April 2011 and November 2012.

The attorney general’s office says Umphenour was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without a chance for parole for more than 30 years.

Tromain Mackall, 29, formerly of Prince Fredrick, Maryland, is missing after last being seen in Kentucky.
“In January, Tromain, moved to Owensboro, Kentucky,” family member Ashley Howell said. “No one in the family has heard from him since Saturday.”
Ohio County Sheriff’s Office in Hartford, Kentucky, issued a press release that read the sheriff’s office is currently working on a missing person case.

“Tromain Mackall, 29, was last seen near the Ohio County/Daviess County line,” the release read in part. “at a residence near State Route 54 around 4 a.m. on Sunday.”
The release goes on to say that Mackall was reported by to have left a residence on foot wearing a dark grey t-shirt and light grey sweatpants.
The report says that Mackall is 5 foot 7 inches tall and weighs approximately 158 pounds.

On Monday, July 25, 2016, the El Paso Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a possible sexual assault on a child involving a coach from a business in the Fountain area.   The offense allegedly occurred on multiple occasions at several different locations. The information surrounding the allegation of inappropriate contact between a coach and 15 year old was initially provided to the deputy, who in turn involved detectives from the Investigations Division, Special Victims Unit.

On Tuesday, July 26, 2016, following a thorough investigation, 37 year old Lee Michael Thompson was arrested and booked into the Criminal Justice Center for Sexual Assault on a Child by one in a Position of Trust, a class 3 felony and is being held without bond.

Due to the age of the victim and nature of the offense, no additional information will be released.

A strange call in Jackson County ended with one man in jail and two deputies in the hospital.

William Gross, 25, was arrested Thursday. According to his arrest citation, he called the cops around 6:30 a.m. from the inside of a home in Jackson County. He told dispatchers that there was a shooting at the home, but the citation says he called back and said he made it all up.

When deputies arrived, they say another person in the house told them there was an unknown man locked in a bedroom.

Deputies say they forced their way into the room and were attacked by Gross. After using a taser on him, deputies placed him under arrest.

Deputies say that Gross told police he was high on bath salts and didn’t even know how he got there.

The deputies were treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital.

Neighbors tell LEX 18 that they weren’t surprised to see something suspicious going on.

“It’s bad here,” said neighbor Tim Hobbs. “It’s really bad, and if they don’t get a handle on it soon, it’s going to get worse.”

Two of the three inmates that escaped from the Bell County Detention Center Tuesday have been recaptured.

Pineville Police Chief Charles Matthews confirms that Raymond Farr, Bobby Holman and Gary Mills ran out an open door while the building was being ventilated.The men were all wearing prison uniforms.

Information eventually led to the arrest of Bobby Holman at a home in Middlesboro late Tuesday evening. The Times Tribune reports that Gary Mills contacted police and agreed to turn himself in.

Farr remains at large.

In addition to their original charges, Mills and Holman are now facing an escape charge.

The Illinois man accused of pulling a gun inside the Cinemark movie theater in Paducah on Saturday has been arrested, according to WPSD Local 6.

Officers say 64-year-old John Grabinski of Ozark, Illinois, turned himself in to Paducah police late Tuesday night. He was arrested on charges including first degree wanton endangerment, second degree disorderly conduct, fourth degree assault and menacing.

Grabinski was then released on a $2,500 cash bond.

The charges stem from an incident at the Cinemark theater in Paducah. Grabinski is accused of cursing at a 14-year-old boy for kicking his seat, after which the teen’s father got into an argument with Grabinski. The two adults then began fighting. Police say the father got the upper hand and Grabinski pulled out a gun.

He was escorted out of the movie theater.

A southern Kentucky man wanted for murder is in jail this morning.

Troopers say they have arrested 18-year-old Deqavion James. James has been the primary suspect since the discovery of a body last Wednesday.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old De’andre Palmer who had been reported missing to Tennessee Police three days before.

Police say James turned himself in to Hopkinsville police yesterday afternoon and was arrested. In addition to murder, he’s been charged with robbery and tampering with physical evidence.

An Orleans County woman is facing numerous sex charges relating to her alleged involvement with children ranging in age from 8 to 13.

Police say Jessica Smith, 31, of the Village of Albion, ‘engaged in several inappropriate activities ranging from moral and ethical inappropriate behavior to criminal behavior involving both physical and sexual contact with children.’

They said the alleged incidents took place between February and June of this year. Police say they will not be releasing any additional information about the case to protect the identity and privacy of the children.

Smith faces multiple counts of endangering the welfare of a child, promoting a sexual performance by a child, unlawfully dealing with a child, unlawful imprisonment and a single count of sexual abuse.

She was arraigned in the Town of Gaines Court and is currently being held at the Orleans County Jail where bail is set at $1,500.

Lexington Police are investigating vandalism and theft from a popular park downtown.

Twenty of the copper fountain heads at Thoroughbred Park were stolen and seven others were damaged.

Police say it happened sometime between Sunday morning and Monday morning. They say it isn’t the first time someone has stolen the copper.

Each fountain head costs $130 to replace.

Visitors at the park say they are surprised someone got away with it.

“I was surprised. I was kind of wondering, like, exactly when they came and did this, because there’s been a lot of people here recently,” said park visitor Shannon Barnett.

Clay County 9-1-1 says that a man stole a vehicle and is on the run.

They say Timothy Lawson is armed and dangerous. he stole a 1997 green Chevy Pickup that has a tool box in the back. They say he also stole a pistol.
