Private Detective: Whitley Co. Inmate Accused of Plotting a Kidnapping

A Whitley County man is accused of plotting a kidnapping from behind bars.

Police say Doyle Fox tried to get a fellow inmate to help carry out the kidnapping of his niece.

Authorities say the plan was to get the child, then blackmail her mother for $50,000 because she worked at a bank.

Detectives say the plot was foiled when the inmate told police about it and wore a wire to record jail conversations with Fox.

“According to the inmate, he was supposed to find a woman to watch the baby, then get the baby, then Doyle was supposed to contact the mother and tell her she needs to pay 50 thousand to get the baby back,” Detective Bobby Freeman with the Williamsburg Police Department told LEX 18.

Police say that Fox only had 10 months left to serve on a 12 year sentence from a stand-off he was involved in back in 2001.

If convicted on this case, police say Fox faces several more years in jail.

The man accused of murdering a 6-year-old boy in Woodford County while he slept appeared in a courtroom Wednesday.

Ronald Exantus, 32, is accused of stabbing Logan Tipton to death during a home invasion last December. Exantus, 32, of Indianapolis is accused of breaking into the house where the boy lived with his parents and siblings in Versailles. He’s facing murder and assault charges.

Last month, a judge said he was under evaluation and his status hearing was moved to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Security was increased at the courtroom due to specific threats against Exantus and rumors that his family would be in court.

Exantus’ attorney declined to speak on camera out of respect for the Tipton family but she told LEX 18 that her client has no recollection of the night the murder happened and the only knowledge he has is what others have told him. She went on to say he suffered a “psychotic break” and has been under psychiatric evaluation and heavy medication ever since.

He will be back in court June 1.
