Cold Case Image Released of Victim in 1989 Cold Case

Nearly 30 years ago, a man’s body was found inside of an old barn on Highway 22 in Grant County. Police still need help identifying the man.

Investigators have released digitized photos of what the man may have looked like back in April 1989. They hope that a new set of eyes could help identify the victim.

They say that his body was badly decomposed when he was found, but experts used his bone structure and other traits to come up with a possible image of the man.

http://liarcatchers.com/cold_cases.html

Police say that they could never compare fingerprints because the man’s hands were severed and never found.

State Police say that the man was between 20 and 30 years old, about 6’4’’, and 220 pounds.

They believe he was killed elsewhere and dumped in the barn.

“The more people we can put this in front of, the more likelihood we can hopefully try to find out who this individual is, and determine how and where he died and solve his murder,” said Trooper David Jones.

Police say he may not be from the area.

Wrongful Death Family Believes Man’s Death Was Murder, Not An Accident

The family of a Clinton County man believes the death of their loved one was a murder and not an accident.

On May 26, 2012, Jodi Goad said her family received a call that her brother, Josh had died in a roll-over crash after driving off Highway 738 and tumbling down an embankment.

The police report from the former Clinton County Sheriff states that Josh was driving north on the road when he dropped off the edge of the road, hit a utility pole and then a tree, causing him to flip the truck. That report said that the truck landed on its wheels. It also said that Josh Goad was not using his seatbelt.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Josh Goad’s death was called an accident by the sheriff.

Many things about the crash disturbed the family. Jodi Goad said they couldn’t get over the nature of Josh’s injuries. She said that Josh appeared to have gashes that looked like defensive wounds on his hands.

That wasn’t the only thing that made the family suspicious.

“The accident was supposedly at 6:30 a.m., they arrive on the scene at 6:34 and he’s cold,” said Jodi.

Josh’s sister Jamie is a former EMT. Jamie identified Josh’s body.

“When I look at his body, from his head down, there were no broken bones, no bruises, nothing but a ton of head trauma,” said Jamie. “The inconsistency with no glass in the face, you know, it struck me as odd.” Jamie said Josh also had swollen hands as if he were in a fight, protecting himself.

Jodi tells LEX 18 that she traced a van that was turned into the junkyard for front end damage not long after the crash. She said that the van belonged to the witness who saw the wreck minutes before it was reported.

Most of all, though, Josh’s sisters and mother can’t get past the theory that Josh died in a rollover crash because of a log chain found in the truck exactly where Josh kept it.

“It never rolled,” said Jodi. “The pictures of his daughter he had and business cards in the visor, nothing ever moved.”

Former Sheriff Rick Riddle told LEX 18 that he couldn’t recall the body going to the medical examiner for an autopsy, but he remembered the evidence that he said showed it was an accident.

When asked if he could have made a mistake, Riddle said, “I could have, I mean, I’m not perfect. I just didn’t see any evidence there for anything other than an accident.”

Josh’s family told LEX 18 that they will not give up fighting for answers.

“I can’t explain it, how it’s been,” said Josh’s mother Debra Bowen. “Hell, I can’t believe people would do this to somebody.”

Josh Goad’s family also told LEX 18 that money was missing from Josh’s wallet, along with a pocket knife.

The current Clinton County Sheriff said this is considered an open case.

Accident Reconstruction 6 Month Old Killed in Clark County Crash

A 6-month-old infant was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Clark County.

The Fayette County Coroner said Lailani Adams was a restrained passenger in the car when it crashed Sunday morning around 3:30 on I-64 west near mile marker 103 in Clark County. Adams’ cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma, according to the Fayette County Coroner.

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.

Adams’ godfather told LEX 18 News he set up an online donation page after the crash. Brandon Maylum said the victim’s father, Lavonte Adams, is recovering from back and spine injuries. Her mother, Lexi Aponte, was also hurt in the crash.

Maylum said the family is from Elizabethtown, and was on their way back from Virginia when they crashed.

“It’s gonna be a while before he (Lavonte) can get back to work. It’s gonna be a couple months from now before he can get back to being the man of the family again,” said Lavonte’s mother, Carmilia Montgomery.

With family by her side, her faith, and her belief that a new angel is watching from above, Aponte is trying to stay positive even in her most painful moments.

“Horrible. But she’s in a better place now, so can’t really ever be happy that she’s at peace now. But she’s with family members that love her, and she’s smiling down on everybody,” said Aponte.

Sheriff Purdue told LEX 18 that the crash is under investigation, but it is believed that the car overcorrected after another vehicle got close to them. After overcorrecting, they hit a rock wall.

Link to the online donation page can be found here.
