Wrongful Death Police Hope For Info in Lexington’s First Murder of 2017

The search continues for the person behind Lexington’s first murder of 2017.

Detectives hope that a new call for information will get someone to come forward.

Robert Cowan was outside the King Cobra Motorcycle Club when police say he was shot in the head. They say some sort of fight led up to the shooting, but there’s no clue as to who fired the gun.

When officers arrived at the scene, they said there were many people around trying to help save Cowan.

“We don’t know all the details. We know very little about this man’s murder, and so we do need people to come forward that may have been there that night or have heard something,” said Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Police say that Cowan was not a member of the King Cobra Club and he was not armed.

“Not only do we need answers as far as who was responsible for this, but also the family, I think, it’s important to have some closure for them to at least know what happened to their loved one,” said Detective Thomas.

Detectives say they know many people might be afraid to talk, but they hope that someone will come forward.

“This man died.  This is not something a simple as felony crime or misdemeanor crime, this something that’s a lot more significant. A man’s life was taken,” said Thomas.

Wrongful Death Boyle Co Teen Accused in Stepmother’s Murder Appears in Court

A Boyle County man says he showed up to his 15-year-old daughter’s court appearance to honor his late wife.

Jenna Oakley was only in the courtroom for a short time. Her attorney asked the judge to continue her case, stating that they need more time to collect evidence.

The last time the teen was in court, she entered a not guilty plea for the murder and theft charges she is facing in the death of her stepmother Rhonda Oakley. Rhonda was found murdered in the family’s home in September 2015. Jenna’s 13-year-old brother found their stepmother’s body.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Jenna was reported missing that same day and was later found at a hotel in New Mexico with her 20-year-old boyfriend, Kenneth Nigh. Police say that the two took off in Rhonda’s car after the murder.

Nigh died at a hospital after attempting to commit suicide in jail.

In court Tuesday, Jenna’s father, Phillip Oakley, told LEX 18 that he is hoping his daughter faces the maximum punishment.

“A fifteen-year-old kid, just destroying their life. It just disgusts me,” said Phillip. “I just want to see justice done at this point, I just want justice.”

Jenna Oakley will be back in court on April 4th at 1:30 p.m. for another hearing.
