Cold Case Pulaski Co. Coroner Trying to Solve 22 Year Old Case

The Pulaski County Coroner needs help solving a 22-year-old cold case.

Clyde Strunk and two coroners before him have all worked on one cold case that seems to never get any closer to being solved. They have no clue who the woman is or what happened to her.

More than two decades ago, campers found remains of an unidentified woman at a Pulaski County park while looking for a campsite in the woods.

The Pulaski County coroner at the time determined that the remains had been there for at least a year, possibly even five.

Strunk hopes that new DNA technology could finally crack this 22-year-old case.

“It’s a long shot, but there has been some missing persons found this way, remains that has been identified this way,” said Strunk.

He says that the previous medical examiner made this composite of what she believes the woman looked like.

Jane Doe is also in the Department of Justice’s National Missing Person’s Registry or NamUs.

“It is all the national sites, and they’re searching every missing person that’s reported against anything that we may have,” said Strunk. “Then we can back up and find out who was last seen with her, who was there, who knew her, and we may be able to solve some more cases involved in that.”

Strunk said that this is all worth it because somewhere out there, the woman has a family.

Wrongful Death Suspects in Two Year Old’s Death Plead Not Guilty

Two men charged in the murder of a two-year-old girl in Lexington pleaded not guilty to those charges Thursday.

No matter how hard it is for the family to see the suspects, they pledge to come to every court appearance to stand up for the little girl.

“It’s still painful. It’s painful just having to look at them,” said Nova Gallman’s great-grandmother Tammye Sparks. “But I’m going to be here.”

Adrian Dunn and Marquis Thurman are both pleading not guilty to charges of assault, robbery, and murder.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Police say that the men were armed when they went to a home on Kenton Street to buy drugs this past December.

Nova Gallman was asleep on the couch when she was hit by a stray bullet after her mother’s boyfriend got into a fight with Dunn and Thurman at the front door.

Investigators say it is still not clear who fired the shot.

The two-year-old’s family is still trying to raise enough money to buy a headstone and bench for her grave site. They say that the outpouring of support from the community is what gets them through tough days.

“People have wrote me and just said they we’re praying for us, and that there wasn’t a day that went by that they didn’t see Nova’s face, so, it’s been wonderful,” said Sparks.

Dunn and Thurman will be back in court for a hearing to discuss evidence on February 24.

Private Detective: Cow Deaths Being Investigated

A Lexington man believes that someone is killing his animals.

Fisher Mobley said that Wednesday morning, around 4 a.m., his dog caused quite a stir, causing him to wake up.

“I didn’t think really anything about it.  I thought it was a coyote, considering where we live,” said Mobley.

When Mobley woke up later that day, he found three of his cows dead.

“I walked out there and how they were placed and laying, the first thing and only thing that came to my mind was that they had been shot,” said Mobley.

He told LEX 18 that this is not the first time something like this has happened on his Bowman Mill Road farm.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“About six months ago, I had a very expensive bull got shot in the head out here,” he said.

He plans to take one of the cows to UK for an official necropsy to find out for sure the cause of death.

In the meantime, Lexington police came out to take a report on the previous death of the bull.

Mobley said that if someone is shooting his animals, he wants them to know it is affecting his livelihood.

“It’s a huge loss. A lot of money and in today’s cattle market,” said Mobley. “Whether it is 3 head or 15 head, it’s still a loss and a lot of money. It’s not good.”

Pedophile Tracking North Dakota Man Sentenced to 50 Years

A North Dakota man accused of enticing a 14-year-old girl from the Philippines to produce sexually explicit images has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.

A jury in October found 54-year-old Calvin Bernhardt, of Tuttle, guilty on five counts, including attempted sexual exploitation of a minor and tampering with a witness or evidence.

Authorities say Bernhardt pursued the victim for about seven months and at one point tried to arrange a meeting with the victim in a Philippines hotel with the intent of having sex with her.

After he found out about the investigation, Bernhardt allegedly contacted the mother of the victim and told her to delete images on the girl’s cellphone and instructed her not to talk to federal authorities.

Private Detective: Councilwoman Faces Forgery and Theft Charges

Police say a Lexington city councilwoman faces forgery and theft charges.

According to Lexington Police, Sasha Love Higgins has been charged with second-degree forgery, theft by deception and identity theft.

The investigation began with a report in early January of identity theft, according to police. Court documents say that Higgins, who is a manager of Hampton Inn, continued to issue fraudulent checks to a former employee months after she left. The ex employee’s husband contacted Higgins to ask about the checks and she admitted that she had continued to issue the checks.

The husband of the victim recorded that phone call and sent it to Lexington Police. Further investigation revealed that the checks amounted to over $4,000. Police say Higgins asked the company to set up a MetaBank account in the former employee’s name. Through that account, documents say that Higgins funneled that money for her own personal use.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“After reviewing the case with the County Attorney’s Office, summonses were issued for Ms. Higgins for all charges,” police spokeswoman Brenna Angel said in a statement Thursday morning. “This investigation is ongoing.”

Higgins posted on Facebook in a Masterson Station neighborhood page that she “looked forward to working hard to clear my name.”

“I was recently given a citation to appear before court and address the details of this case,” Higgins wrote. “I have retained an attorney to assist me with this.”

Higgins, a hospitality professional and Hampton Inn general manager, upset incumbent Shevawn Akers in the November election for the council seat representing the 2nd District. That district includes Leestown and Georgetown Road areas.
