Wrongful Death Teen Charged With Murder in Fatal Lexington Crash

A 16-year-old male has been charged with murder in connection to the deadly crash on New Circle Road near Tates Creek Saturday night.

Around 11:20 p.m. Saturday night on Mt. Tabor Road near Richmond Road, officers tried pulling over a Toyota Camry that had been reported stolen earlier in the night. Police say as they approached the car, the driver sped away down Mt. Tabor towards Alumni Drive.

A short time later, another officer saw the Camry driving the wrong way down the outer loop of New Circle Road toward Tates Creek Road. Upon investigation, police say the Camry hit a pick up truck and was then hit by another car. Five people were hurt in the crash, including the driver and two passengers of the stolen Camry. One of those passengers, 18-year-old Tabitha Busbee of Lexington, later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“It’s just hard to imagine a life with her not around,” says her brother, Joshua. She was a ray of light in everybody’s life. Everybody that knew her had positive things to say about her. She was always smiling, having a good time.”

Tabby graduated from Henry Clay High School and worked in a local day care.

The family says they never expected something like this to happen, especially because just days ago, she survived another accident.

“She was a passenger in another vehicle where she was in an accident and received a little head trauma from it,” says Joshua.

The family has set up a funeral fund for Tabby. You can donate here.

The 16-year-old driver of the stolen car is now charged with murder, 2nd degree assault, and receiving stolen property.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to call Lexington Police at (859) 258-3600.

Pedophile Tracking ND Man Sentenced to 50 Years

A North Dakota man accused of enticing a 14-year-old girl from the Philippines to produce sexually explicit images has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.

A jury in October found 54-year-old Calvin Bernhardt, of Tuttle, guilty on five counts, including attempted sexual exploitation of a minor and tampering with a witness or evidence.

Authorities say Bernhardt pursued the victim for about seven months and at one point tried to arrange a meeting with the victim in a Philippines hotel with the intent of having sex with her.

After he found out about the investigation, Bernhardt allegedly contacted the mother of the victim and told her to delete images on the girl’s cellphone and instructed her not to talk to federal authorities.
