Two people have been indicted by the grand jury on charges of criminal abuse of a child.

Detectives say a juvenile had injuries that were not consistent with an accident. KSP says the charges were a result of a complaint from the Bourbon County Health and Family Services.

Taylor Myers, 24, and Jessica Morris, 24, are charged with Criminal Abuse 1^st degree of a Child 12 years or younger. KSP says Morris is the child’s mother and Myers was living at the home at the time of the investigation. Family members say that Myers is Morris’ ex-boyfriend.

The child’s grandmother, Rita Leet, said that her granddaughter was severely injured back in February 2016. Leet said that the baby was eight-months-old at the time.

“Her collar bone was broken, her arm was broken, her legs were broke,” said Leet.

Leet said baby Kenley had eight broken bones.  Kenley is the daughter of Jessica Morris and Rita Leet’s deceased son, Cody.

Morris was charged with criminal abuse in December.

Jessica Morris pleaded not guilty to the charge. Her attorney said that she has maintained her innocence from the beginning and has no knowledge of what happened.

The case remains under investigation.

The Hart County Grand Jury returned an indictment for the murder of a man killed in Horse Cave back in August.

An indictment was issued for 54-year-old Mardy Jones for the shooting death of his brother, 39-year-old Ronald D. West.

KSP describes Jones as being 6’3” tall, 180 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, and a scorpion tattoo on his left forearm.

The Jessamine County Coroner said a teenager was shot and killed Thursday evening in Nicholasville.

The coroner identified the victim as 15-year old Leo Travers. He was a student at East Jessamine High School.

Police in Nicholasville responded to the shooting on Garden Park Drive around 7:30 Thursday night after receiving calls from neighbors about gunshots.

“I was sitting inside and I heard three big pops and I thought it was fireworks,” said Audriana Ege, who lives several doors down. “I came outside to go to my car and all of a sudden, here comes the cops and ambulance.”

When officers got to the scene, they found someone lying in the street with several gunshot wounds. Paramedic crews transported the victim to the hospital where he later died.

Officers also found a white sedan wrecked in a nearby yard. They questioned the driver, who was in the area at the time.

“As she heard gunshots firing out, she tried to get away and ended up hitting a fire hydrant,” said Kevin Grimes with the Nicholasville Police Department. “At one point, one of the bullets went through her back windshield.”

Nicholasville Police stayed on scene for several hours reconstructing the crime scene. Officers are still looking for the shooter and a reason why this all happened.

Two grand jury indicted two North Jersey men Monday on charges they conspired to defraud Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and an auto workers union out of $5.6 million, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.

Sergio Acosta, 66, of Passaic, the former president of United Auto Workers Local 2326, and Lawrence Ackerman, 53, of Old Tappan, were indicted on conspiring to defraud Horizon and conspiring to defraud the union’s health care plan.

Acosta was a Local 2326 employee from 2002 to 2008 and was responsible for the union’s operations and benefits plan. He became a representative and employee of the UAW International Union.

Ackerman created shell companies that he used to market health insurance to non-employees, and made it seem as though the people worked for the companies and who wanted health insurance coverage.

Acosta and Ackerman allegedly conspired to defraud Horizon of $5.6 million by covering 700 to 800 ineligible people Ackerman recruited across the country.

Horizon discovered the fraud and pulled its coverage of the union. Ackerman allegedly then permitted the people to continue to be covered by the union’s self-insurance care plan, Fishman said.

Acosta and Ackerman could each face up to 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine, Fishman said. They will be arraigned at a later date.

Richmond Police are investigating after an overnight home invasion at a home on Maple Hill Drive.

According to officials, a woman knocked on the door of the home at around 4:30 a.m. and gave the name of another person. When a teenager living in the home opened the door, the woman and three men burst in the door.

Police say the invaders pistol whipped the victim’s father and robbed him of his money. One of the suspects had a shotgun and the other two had pistols, along with a 45 caliber automatic.

At some point, a shot was fired into one of the walls before the robbers left the scene.

Police aren’t sure exactly how much money was stolen. The robbers were described as three black men wearing ski masks, and one black woman with braids. The woman was not wearing a ski mask.

The victim was taken to Baptist Health in Richmond. He was treated and released.

Police are searching for a blue SUV that may be involved in this case.

The Bourbon County man charged with the 2015 stabbing death of a navy veteran and former firefighter was given a 30-year sentence in court.

It’s been almost 15 months since Jonathan Scalf was stabbed to death by his estranged wife’s boyfriend, Daniel Martin. Scalf was a Navy veteran and former firefighter. The night of his death, police say he was visiting his 18-month old daughter when Martin became upset and stabbed him multiple times.

Thursday’s sentencing was the result of a plea deal. Martin pleaded guilty to murder and tampering with physical evidence.

Because of the plea, Martin lost his right to appeal and must serve at least 85% of his 30 year sentence before he has an opportunity for parole.

Scalf’s family says that while no sentence will ever be punishment enough, they are happy they avoided a long, drawn out trial. Scalf’s family says Jonathan’s 3-year-old daughter still asks for her father almost daily.

The Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force recently conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of a Greenville man.

Craig Albright

Craig Alan Albright, 55, was investigated after police received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. On Dec. 8, 2016, a search warrant was executed at Albright’s home. Evidence was recovered that allegedly connected Albright with child sexually abusive activity and material at his home.

An arrest warrant was obtained and Albright turned himself into the Montcalm County Jail in Stanton on Monday.

Albright has been arraigned on charges issued by the Montcalm County Prosecutor’s Office, including child sexually abusive activity, child sexually abusive material (possession) and using a computer to commit a crime.

Police are investigating a robbery that happened at a Lexington hotel.

Police say that around 11:00 p.m. on Monday, there was a report of an armed robbery at the GuestHouse Inn & Suites on Elkhorn Road.

The clerk told officers that a woman in a pink hooded sweatshirt entered the business through the front door and implied she had a weapon. She demanded money from the register and police say the clerk complied.

Police describe her as a white woman, about 5’0 tall with brown hair and brown eyes. She is described as being pale.

An Ohio man accused in a firefighter’s death has entered a not guilty plea in Madison County.

49-year-old William Tucker is the second person arrested for a 2015 fire that killed Hamilton, Ohio firefighter Patrick Wolterman. He is charged with two counts of aggravated arson and one count of murder.

Wolterman died after falling through the floor of the house while attempting to help two people he thought were trapped.

Tucker was arrested last Friday in Richmond with a one million dollar cash bond. His uncle, Lester Parker, was arrested last month, charged with arson and murder.

Tucker went before a judge Wednesday and pleaded not guilty.

Tucker’s extradition hearing is scheduled for January 18th at 9:00 a.m.
