Private Detective: Lexington Man Arrested in Connection to Rape and Home Invasions

A Lexington man has been arrested in connection with a rape investigation that connected him to a similar crime that occurred in April of 2015.

Jefferey Cummins was arrested Monday after police say he broke into an elderly woman’s apartment on Donabrook Court. The woman was found by a neighbor and had been raped.

Documents say that Cummins poured bleach on the woman in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The DNA evidence remained and appears to connect Cummins to a similar incident that happened in 2015.

According to police documents, Cummins broke into the victim’s house on the night of April 11. At that time he asked the victim if she were alone. When she replied that she was, police say Cummins forcefully raped and sodomized her at knifepoint, while threatening to kill her.

The victim told police that she thought if she complied with Cummins’ demands, he would not kill her.

According to a warrant, Cummins also stole $20 from her wallet.

Upon investigating, police found a palm print that was later identified as belonging to Cummins. A search warrant for Cummins’ DNA was issued and it was a match for the DNA from the rape kit.

He will be arraigned Tuesday on several charges including burglary, sodomy and rape.
