Private Detective: $3k Worth of Tools Stolen From Habitat For Humanity

Habitat for Humanity in Richmond, which builds homes for people in need, is out thousands of dollars after someone stole many of their tools.

“Our construction site got broken into,” said Russ Barclay, the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity. “Someone had broken through the back window and tore a hole through the side door of our trailer.”

Barclay says the crew of volunteers were working on a project on Brown Street in Berea at the end of the work day they locked up and left.

It wasn’t until the next morning, they learned someone broke into the house and several of their big ticket construction tools were missing from the trailer.

“The people took our table saw, they took a compressor and multiple circular saws,” said Barclay.

Barclay says the tools are worth at least $3,000. He says they’re not angry about the burglary but, rather, heartbroken because it’s delaying more homes.

we’ve got a couple of home builds coming up and our tools and our equipment are critical for us to have a successful workday and be able to build homes.”

While some replacements have already been donated they still need many more, “help us get those tools back through new purchases or donations of good safe working equipment.”
