Accident Reconstruction Bus in Montgomery County Involved in Accident

A crash involving a Montgomery County school bus sends a woman to the hospital, and caused some scary moments for several Camargo Elementary School children, and a mother who saw it all unfold. It happened around 3:40 pm on Kentucky 11 in Montgomery County near the Powell County line.

“It scared me. I just dropped what I was doing, and ran outside,” says Gemima Jones, who had a son and daughter on the bus.

Jones watched from her kitchen window as an SUV that had lost control hit the front of the school bus, and then crashed down an embankment. Kentucky State Police say the driver of the SUV may have lost control due to wet roads. As the bus came to a screeching halt, Jones and her family rushed to it.

“Mom and dad and Jimmy they ran outside to see if we was ok,” says Eunice Jones, a third grader.

“They were scared, they were crying. Both of them were thrown out of their seats. She got up and there’s a knot on her head where she hit the floor,” says Gemima Jones.

Police say none of the children had to go to the hospital. Eunice Jones insisted despite the bump, she’s OK.

The woman in the SUV was taken to the hospital. Police say she appeared to have some internal injuries.

Identity Theft More than a Dozen Reports from Forest Lake, Minn.

It started with one report of identity theft a couple weeks ago. Now more than a dozen reports from one Forest Lake neighborhood have come in.

Credit cards have been opened fraudulently in residents’ names, and the suspected monetary loss so far is about $100,000, said Forest Lake police Capt. Greg Weiss.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Police put out an emergency Code Red alert this month — an electronic alert sent to targeted households — calling on people to check their credit reports and attend a community meeting.

“When this hit, people started talking to each other, because they’re neighbors,” Weiss said. “The meeting is in order to curb rumors and inform people of what’s being done. It’s preventative and educational.”

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Hardwood Creek branch library at 19955 Forest Road N.

Residents who can’t attend are urged to check their credit reports and call police if anything is amiss, Weiss said.

Weiss said being proactive is crucial — both to reduce the amount of ID theft and the workload for investigators.

Electronic fraud and identity theft have become so prevalent that they are now the department’s top crime, Weiss said.

For victims, the effects of ID theft are long-lasting.

“When you go to the bank and you’re declined for an auto loan, it’s already too late,” Weiss said.

It can take months or years to erase the negative impact and to repair credit.

So far, the recent rash of ID theft has been limited to
residents in the area of the 20000 block of Everton Avenue North, Weiss said. About 14 reports have come in, with reported fraud of a couple of thousand dollars up to $20,000 in their names.

Two detectives are working full time on the case and have enlisted the help of the FBI, Weiss said.

For more information, residents can contact Detective Ashley LaValle at 651-209-9919 or 432@flpd.com.

Arson Investigation 3 Alarm Fire in Yonkers, NY

YONKERS, N.Y. — The Yonkers Fire Department was investigating arson as a possible cause for a three-alarm fire that destroyed a multifamily home on Webster Avenue, damaged four others, briefly trapped six firefighters and displaced 28 residents Sunday afternoon.

“We do have reason to believe it was intentionally set,” Deputy Chief John Flynn said on the scene.

Yonkers firefighters responded to the blaze at the multifamily home at 103 Webster Ave. at 3:38 p.m. Sunday.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

When firefighters arrived, flames and heavy smoke were coming out of the top of the three-story building. The fast-moving fire destroyed the structure and quickly spread to the homes on each side. In total, five buildings sustained fire damage, Flynn said, including two that were severely damaged.

The firefighters rescued a person from a second-story window of the home at 103 Webster Ave., Flynn said. But crews were unable to save “several” animals who died in the fire, he said.

Toward the latter stage of the blaze, six firefighters from two companies were trapped by advancing fire in the rear of the home, Flynn said. They were rescued by FAST, or Firefighters Assist Team, who used ladders outside the building to get the responders out, he said.

One fire lieutenant suffered some injuries, Flynn said, but he was unsure of the extent of the injuries. Four residents were taken to the hospital after complaining of difficulty breathing, officials said.

The fire department had the blaze under control by about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, but 60-plus firefighters remained on the scene into the evening. Flynn said they would likely be there for several more hours.

“It was really a heavy firefight and required an intensive amount of manpower,” Flynn said.

Flynn declined to say where in the home at 103 Webster Ave. the fire began, saying it was still under investigation.

As of Sunday evening, officials had still blocked off a good portion of Webster Avenue and the connecting streets near Yonkers Avenue. Near the yellow crime scene tape, dozens of neighbors and interested spectators looked on.

Red Cross officials said they were helping 28 residents displaced by the blaze, giving them temporary shelter at the Good Shepard Presbyterian Church at Elm and Walnut streets.

Wrongful Death Mother of Jhessye Shockley Arrested

PHOENIX –

It’s hard to believe we’ve been covering the case of a missing Glendale girl for almost a year now.

5-year-old Jhessye Shockley was reported missing last October.

After months of investigating and pouring over evidence, prosecutors believe they can prove that her own mother is responsible for the child’s death.

On Monday, Jerice Hunter is expected to respond to charges of murder and child abuse.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Hunter’s arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Authorities say she was arrested on Sept. 6, based on the evidence they’ve been collecting for the past 11 months, but they’ve shared very few details about what they discovered.

Hunter told police Jhessye went missing on Oct. 11 while her other children were caring for her. She claims she left their apartment to run an errand and when she returned, the 5-year-old was gone.

In a court video from November, Hunter answered to child abuse charges. Court paperwork revealed that Jhessye’s siblings told police their sister looked “like a zombie” and that a closet Jhessye was put in “smelled like dead people.”

Hunter not guilty and she was seen leaving jail when those charges were dropped.

As a memorial grew near the girl’s home, the investigation continued with a 96 day search in the Butterfield Landfill.

“No 5-year-old should be left in a landfill,” said Brent Coombs of the Glendale Police Department.

Nearly 300 people dug through literally tons of trash. Prosecutors believe Hunter disposed of the child’s body days before filing a missing person’s report.

“Detectives with the Glendale Police Department arrested Jerice Hunter for the murder of her 5-year-old daughter Jhessye Shockley,” said GPD’s Deborah Black.

Hunter was taken into custody earlier this month. The arrest came as a shock to her attorney, Scott Maasen, who says his client is innocent.

“Now we’re going to see what the facts are, what their theory or what they think happened and whether they’ll be able to prove it,” he said.

Hunter has already served time in a California prison for abusing her older children.

A trial is expected to begin for this case sometime in the next two months. Prosecutors are confident they can convict Hunter, even though Jhessye’s body still hasn’t been found.
