Wrongful Death Toy Drive Being Held For Siblings of 6 Year Old Stabbing Victim

An organization is holding a toy drive in Frankfort for the siblings of Logan Tipton.

The 6-year-old Woodford County boy was murdered last week while asleep in his own bed.

Since the murder, the community has pulled together to show support for the family.

Recently, an organization called “May Our Wounds Heal,” announced they are holding a toy drive for Logan’s brother and three sisters.

“Anything is going to be a blessing to them.  We’re not asking for a certain toy,” said Jennifer Ratliff with May Our Wounds Heal.

The toy drive will be Saturday afternoon starting at 3:00 p.m. Toys can be dropped off at Macadoo’s Bar on Ridgeview Drive in Frankfort.

They are asking that if you wrap the gifts, please keep the wrapping gender specific. Gifts that aren’t wrapped will be wrapped at the toy drive.

Logan’s uncle will be playing in a band during the toy drive.

Logan’s sisters are ages 7, 8 and 11. His brother is 4.

The crime of the week takes us to Buckhorn drive.

The date: October 16th, when a man strolls into the Circle K…

“He walks in, kind of calm and causally, and puts a gun into the clerk’s face, and says ‘give me some cash and some cigarettes,'” said Detective Mark Thomas of Lexington Police.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

His calm, cool demeanor is alarming for detectives, who believe he might have struck other places.

Private Detective: Burglars Hit Two Counties

On Monday LEX 18 warned about a brazen break-in at a Madison County business. Investigators in Grant County saw our story, and said they think the thieves also hit their community, using the same get away pickup truck.

Two crimes, two auto dealerships, and two people caught on camera in two different counties.

“Pieced together that it was going to be the same set of suspects,” said Chief Deputy Brian Maines, with the Grant County Sheriff’s Department. Detectives in Grant County said the brazen burglars first stopped at the Piles Chevrolet Sunday at around 9 p.m.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“It looked to me like they had a shopping list,” said Michael Buckwalter, a dealer at Piles Chevrolet.

He said the man and woman were stealing new pickup truck tailgates. “They certainly appear to be comfortable, no one appears to be in a panic or frantic,” said Buckwalter.

“Drop the tailgate, remove the hinges, and then was able to quickly remove the tailgates and put them in the bed of their truck,” said Maines, while describing the surveillance video.

What investigators said they noticed most, was the get away truck. A white pickup, with a flickering taillight, that was very similar to one seen hours later in Madison County.

“The truck matched the description of the truck that ran through the gate down there,” said Maines.

Detectives said they noticed the similarities while watching our story about Central Kentucky Truck and Trailer on LEX18 News.

“It’s very brazen. I mean you take a truck and smash into a gate…we have another camera that captures them leaving… you can tell this is a Dodge truck,” said Tim Cobb with Central Kentucky Truck and Trailer.

The brazen burglars broke into that dealership early Monday morning at around midnight. Cobb said the duo hot wired, and then stole a $20-thousand truck.

Now the Grant County dealership is making a deal and offering a thousand dollar reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. If you have any information about these crimes, you’re asked to call the police in Madison County, or the Grant County Sheriff’s Department.

“Someone knows this vehicle and knows these people,” said Buckwalter.

Wrongful Death Body ID as Missing Detroit Woman

A 24-year-old Detroit woman missing since Friday was found dead early Monday evening, according to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Family members positively identified Kajavia Globe Tuesday morning, her sister, Alondrianna Burns, said through tears.

“The first thing that I wanted was to have her back,” Burns said earlier Tuesday before the identification. “The next thing is to have the person who did this put away.”

Globe’s body was identified by her father, according to medical examiner spokesman Lloyd Jackson.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

An autopsy has been completed on Globe’s body, Jackson said. The cause and manner of death remain pending and are not expected to be released Tuesday.

Police found Globe’s body early Monday evening near Fielding and Clarita on the city’s west side after receiving a tip, officials said.

As the oldest sister, Globe constantly took care of her three younger sisters, ages 13 to 22, Burns said earlier Tuesday.

“It’s not a day that goes by that if there’s anything we need, she’s going to do it for you,” Burns said.

That included staying up nights with Burns, who had severe asthma as a child.

“I can remember times that my mom had to go to work and she’d sit up with me so I could sleep,” Burns said. “Every hour on the hour, she’d wake me up and give me my breathing machine. Then she’d go to school with no sleep, because she had to look out for me.”

Globe was last seen leaving work around noon Friday in the area of McNichols and Southfield Service Drive, police said. She was driving Burns’ gold 2003 Chevrolet Impala, the sister said.

Family members filed a missing persons report Saturday, Police Chief James Craig said at a Monday press conference.

“Every step of the way, (the police) have been helpful,” Burns said. “They’ve been willing to listen, and they’ve been doing their due diligence.”

After a weekend of investigation, the vehicle was recovered around 6:30 a.m. Monday near Chatham and Fenkell.

“As we recovered her vehicle, there was evidence of foul play,” Craig said then.

He declined to specify what type of evidence was discovered but repeatedly referred to Globe as a “victim.”

Investigators also discovered a masked individual took an unspecified amount of money from Globe’s bank account at a west side ATM, he said. The withdrawal occurred after 5 p.m. Friday, hours after Globe went missing.

“We’re processing some video,” Craig said. “The person in the video was masked up.”

Craig said police believe the individual is male but can’t be sure due to the person’s face being covered. Investigators also can’t yet rule out a known acquaintance as the suspect, he said.

Police later Monday released an image of the masked individual taken from the ATM surveillance cameras. Burns said she immediately recognized her vehicle in the picture.

“And at the same time, I see that he didn’t have on gloves,” she said, referring to the individual as male. “That’s good, because he left DNA. He left that behind. That’s a mistake he made.”

Globe’s bank cards were recovered inside her vehicle, Craig said. There has been no known activity on her cellphone, which has not been located.

Craig declined to specify where the ATM is located, but police did say it is on the city’s west side. Globe’s workplace and the location of the recovered vehicle also were on the west side of the city. Police declined to say where the woman worked.

“The family intimated that it was highly unusual for their daughter to just go missing,” Craig said.

Burns early Tuesday reiterated that Globe would not stay out of touch with family for more than a few hours.

“She Facetimes us every morning, she Facetimes (her younger sisters to say) have a good time at school,” Burns said. “She’s the best. She’s got the biggest heart in the world.”

Anyone with information, including those who may have seen the Impala prior to its recovery Monday, should call Detroit police at (313) 596-5840.

Fraud Investigation in Nicholas County Involving a Farmer

A Nicholas County farmer has collected a million dollars for failed crops since 1999.

However, she is also collecting $1,100 a month for food stamps.

She is one of several people federal agents are questioning after a huge raid in Mount Sterling last week.

There are 400 pages of allegations that an insurance agent, a tobacco warehouse owner and several farmers defrauded the government and insurance companies out of millions of dollars.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Roger Wilson is a mild mannered, white haired man who has operated a tobacco warehouse and farm retail business for decades. When the federal agents left his warehouse last week, he told LEX 18 he had no idea why the feds came knocking.

Allegations outlined in a federal search warrant uncovered by LEX 18 Investigates claim Wilson laundered millions through his warehouse and farm retail business. Starting in 2009, he withdrew 4 and half million dollars in cash, all of the transactions were under $10,000 to avoid federal reporting rules.

The web woven by the farmers and Wilson also included the Ohio Valley Insurance Agency in Mount Sterling. The agency is owned by Michael McNew and his wife. McNew is alleged to have accepted payments from farmers for a “favorable” insurance adjustment.

Federal court records indicate at least one farmer received $68,000 for a crop that was never planted. That same farmer also planted a failed tobacco crop tens years in a row. The policies were in his daughter’s name; she has collected  a million dollars in crop insurance money since 1999. In 2014, she collected $459,000 for 178 acres of a failed tobacco crop. This is the same person we told who is receiving $1,100 a month in food stamps.

No one has been charged yet…LEX 18 Investigates has been told federal agents and the US district attorney’s office are just getting started.
