Private Detective: Morgan Co. Man in Critical Condition After Shooting

A man shot Wednesday afternoon in Morgan County remained in critical condition at UK Hospital on Thursday.

Kentucky State Police said Sam Sparks, 21, was shot along Perry Road in the county.

“The man shot him twice: once in the chest and once in the shoulder,” Sparks’ brother-in-law, Brian Gibbs told LEX 18’s Josh Breslow.

While it’s clear that Sparks was shot multiple times, investigators are trying to figure out what led up to the incident.

“We’re still trying to gather all the information that’s involved in this case,” said Trooper Joe Veeneman with Kentucky State Police. “There’s a possibility, looking into this case, that it could be a situation where it was a self-defense.”

According to Sparks’ family, the young man was on Perry Road to help a woman track down a stolen motorcycle. While Sparks was down on the ground looking at a bike’s VIN, Gibbs said shots were fired.

Sparks was flown to UK Hospital with injuries considered to be life-threatening. While Sparks could require surgery, Gibbs said the 21-year-old is expected to survive.

“I know there’s two sides to every story. We don’t know his side because he’s in the condition that he’s in,” said Gibbs.

Sparks’ family told LEX 18 that they want the shooter to be charged; however, State Police said that decision will be likely be left up to a grand jury.

Two other 17-year olds and 18-year-old Arlando Morris are also charged in connection with the case.  Police say the “wanna-be” gang members may have had a beef with Kincaid.  However, Kincaid’s mother says her son doesn’t  know the five suspects. She says they were after a friend of his who was threatened at school after the shooting and reported it.

“He said he told his principal at school that the boy came to him and told him “How did you like what I did to the Heights? I shot up the place. And he said I don’t even live there that’s my friend’s house,” says Kincaid.

Wrongful Death Search Underway for More Suspects in Murder Case

One man is behind bars, and two men are on the run, for a double shooting that left a Madison County man dead overnight.

The Clark sheriff’s Department said Roy Combs was killed early Wednesday morning on Athens Boonesboro Road. Investigators said he had been shot.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

On Monday afternoon Kentucky State Police arrested 46-year old Don Attaway for Murder. Troopers said Kirk A. Garrett, 47 years old of Richmond and Christopher W. Coleman, 35 years old of Richmond are both wanted in connection to the murder investigation. KSP said the men may be driving a 2002 Black Toyota pick-up, and are considered armed and dangerous.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Department said during the crime another man was also hit in the leg with a bird shot from a shotgun. From the Clark County Detention Center, Roy’s sister, Sonia Combs, said she had an idea of what happened.

“As far as I know it was a setup.  They took him down there to kill him,” said Sonia. She said she heard that there was some sort of a fight, possibly over a girl, that led to Roy’s murder.

“Just mad at the situation. Like, why was he there?  Why they did it? What would cause someone to do such a horrible thing to somebody?” asked Sonia.

While Roy’s family waits for arrests, they’re focused on saying goodbye. They spent Wednesday celebrating what would have been Roy’s 26th birthday.

With pictures, balloons, and plenty of friends and family it was a somber get together in Richmond.

“We’d be celebrating his birthday today,” said Roy’s father, Roy Combs Sr. Instead, “We are planning a funeral,” said Roy’s sister, Virginia Combs.

For Roy’s family the painful reality is setting in. The man they loved and called the family protector, who was known best by his childhood nickname “Hooch,” was killed early Wednesday morning.

“I just feel so much hurt and pain, anger. Because of the way he died,” said Roy Sr.

“He was murdered this morning. He was shot in the head,” said Virginia, as she sobbed.

Family said that the news of an arrest brought relief, but they hope all of the suspects are caught.

“There’s some evil people in this world, but they will all pay at the end,” said Roy Sr.

Still, justice won’t bring back Roy, so family spent his birthday writing messages on balloons and saying goodbye to the man who will be missed.

If you have any information in this case, you’re asked to call Kentucky State Police.

Private Detective: Nursing Home Worker Charged with Assaulting Resident

A former healthcare worker in Fulton County has been indicted on an assault charge for allegedly putting a hot pepper in an elderly person’s mouth. A press release from Attorney General Jack Conway’s office states Crystal Marie Leyhue, 34, was a caregiver at the Haws Memorial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

 http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The indictment stems from something that allegedly happened back in November of 2014. It says Leyhue put a hot pepper in an 82 year old resident’s mouth and laughed at their reaction, and there is apparently video evidence of this happening. Another employee at the facility says they saw what happened and reported it to her superiors. Leyhue was then fired and now faces a 4th degree assault charge.

The case is being prosecuted by Fulton County Attorney Rick Majors. She could spend a year in jail if convicted.
