Private Detective: Additional Details on Danville Dominos Shooting

On the eve of her 21st birthday, a clerk shot on the job at a Danville pizza place was fighting for her life. Zoe Reed was shot sometime before 10:30 p.m. Monday night, at the Dominos on South Fourth Street. That’s just down the road from where a triple murder shocked the city almost a year ago.

Although the pizza place was open on Tuesday, it closed early. On Tuesday night there were still no arrests and neighboring businesses were on edge.

“It’s a senseless tragedy. There is nothing worth somebody’s life like that, it’s just horrible,” said Michael Sutherland. He owns Brothers Barbeque And Brewing Company, which is located across the street from Dominos.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

While it’s an act of violence no one can make sense of, it’s especially troubling for the nearby restaurant. Brothers Barbeque And Brewing Company is one of the few places open late, like Dominos. Monday night the restaurant closed minutes before the attempted robbery across the street.

“We hate it that it happened to this young lady, we wish there was something we could do for them. I wish we could have seen something and maybe could have helped them, but it was shortly after we left last night,” said Sutherland.

Investigators said sometime before 10:30 p.m. a pizza was ordered to a fake address, possibly to lure the delivery driver away from the business. It was when Reed was alone in the store, that she was attacked.

“It just blew my mind, it’s just right here you can see it from here and it’s just there is no value for life anymore,” said Benjamin Bugg, who works at Brothers Barbeque And Brewing Company.

The delivery driver later returned and found Reed in the store, then investigators said he called 911. Reed was taken to a local hospital, and then to the University of Kentucky Hospital.

With no surveillance video at the pizza place, police are looking to businesses nearby for help.

“Hopefully he (another business) caught something on the camera that will help them,” said Sutherland.

In light of this tragedy Sutherland said he plans to add surveillance cameras, plus increase security measures. While people at his restaurant amp up safety, it’s the safety of Reed that’s on their minds.

“I just hope that she gets better and my thoughts and prayers are with her family,” said Bugg.

“Everybody is rooting for her. It’s a horrible crime. I hope whoever did this to her is caught soon and brought to justice,” said Sutherland.

The Dominos franchise owner told LEX 18 News that his heart goes out to Reed and her family. He said he is doing everything he can to help police with the investigation. If you have any information that could help this investigation, you’re asked to call Danville Police.

Reed’s family said they are asking for privacy as they help her recover.

Fraud Investigation Two Men Claiming To Be FBI Tried to Get Credit Card Numbers

Two men claiming they were with the FBI and asking questions about credit card numbers raised suspicions at a Lexington business Tuesday morning.

Police responded to the Tire Discounters on West New Circle Road around 9 a.m. Employees said they were caught off guard when the duo walked in, flashed badges, said they were with the FBI, and tried to get credit card numbers. The employees said something just didn’t seem right, so they told the men they couldn’t help. The men left in an older, black car.

Employees called the corporate office, and employees there called the police.

Police agreed that the story sounded strange, but it remains unclear who the men were.

Wrongful Death Man Kills Wife in Louisville Murder-Suicide

Police are still trying to determine what led to a murder-suicide last night in Louisville.

Officials say 38-year-old Anthony Puryear was in a car chasing an SUV driven by his wife, 37-year-old Shannon Puryear.

They apparently came off the Watterson Expressway and one of the vehicles smashed into the garage of a business.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Investigators say after the crash, Anthony Puryear shot his wife, then turned the gun on himself.

He died at the scene and she later died at a Louisville Hospital.

Private Detective: One Man Behind Fraudulent Shopping Spree in Lexington and Louisville

A one-man crime spree stretches all the way from Lexington to Louisville, and police in both cities believe the suspect is linked to several car break-ins.

Unfortunately for the suspect, he was captured on camera spending hundreds of his victims’ dollars.

Back on August 24, one woman walked away from her car only long enough to take her luggage into the Griffin Gate Marriott and returned to find the window of her car busted out with her cash and credit cards gone.

“She did her own follow-up and actually tracked her phone and it was last tracked at the Marathon,” says Det. Chris Darmadji.

Detectives pulled surveillance video and found the spot where the man who broke into her car, ditched her purse before taking off with what he really wanted: her cards.

From the Marathon, he drove his white Infinity SUV to the Target on Reynolds Road.

“We found out he bought electronics, gift cards, prepaid cell phones,” says Det. Darmadji.

But he wasn’t finished. He jumped back on I-64 to Louisville and continued his shopping spree at the Nordstrom in St. Matthews Mall.

“He’s very smart, he knows what to do. He’s been getting away with it for a very long time,” says Det. Darmadji.

So police are hoping you’ll share his photo and with a little luck, they’ll come up with an ID.

If you have any information on the identity of the suspect, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at (859) 253-2020. Your information could earn you a cash reward.

Fraud Investigation BBB Warns of Scammers Posing As IRS Agents

Better Business Bureau says it has received dozens of reports from consumers this week who received scam phone calls from persons alleging to be officers with the Internal Revenue Service.

Officials say a majority of the calls centered in the Georgetown-Scott County area, but not exclusively. The calls are automated messages left for consumers on their voice mails or answering machines. The caller gives some official sounding title (“Officer” Smith) with the IRS and states that the call is in regard to a “serious legal matter” and that action will be taken unless the consumer returns the call. The caller leaves a phone number with a “202” area code, which is the area code for Washington D.C., in an effort to add credibility to the scam.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

“These callers can sound convincing when they call. They may know a lot about you, and they alter the caller ID to make it look like the IRS is calling,” said Jack Frank, BBB President and CEO. “They use fake names and bogus IRS identification badge numbers. If you don’t answer, they often leave an urgent callback request. BBB urges consumers to ignore these calls.”

Victims of this scam around the country fell for claims that they owed “back taxes” or “penalties” for late payments, and were tricked into buying pre-paid debit cards (such as Green Dot Moneypak cards) to pay the “fine” to avoid arrest. The money is unrecoverable.

IRS officials warn on their website that they do NOT do business in this manner. They offer these five signs of a scam using the IRS name. The IRS will never:

1. Call you about taxes you owe without first mailing you an official notice.

2. Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.

3. Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card.

4. Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.

5. Threaten to bring in local police or other law enforcement to arrest you for not paying.

The IRS urges anyone with questions about any taxes they may owe to call them at 1-800-829-1040. The IRS also reminds taxpayers that they do not use unsolicited email, text messages or any social media to discuss your personal tax issues.

Consumers may report scams to BBB at (859) 259-1008 or 1-800-866-6668, or email info@bluegrass.bbb.org

Private Detective: Suspect Assaults Officer, Dies in Shootout

Officials have identified the man shot and killed on the eastern bypass in Richmond Saturday night when a multi-county police chase turned into a deadly shootout between a man on the run and officers from several police agencies.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has identified the man shot and killed by officers as 29-year-old Jesse Gibbons of Lexington.

Gibbons is accused of assaulting a Lexington officer and then fleeing the scene with the officer’s Taser. Gibbons allegedly then led law enforcement on a pursuit from Lexington to Madison County, where he opened fire. Officers shot back, and Gibbons was struck multiple times.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Part of the scary ordeal was witnessed by two men who caught the shootout on cell phone video and spoke with LEX 18 about the incident.

“We got out of the car and they told us to duck down. We were behind the car and I pulled out my phone and started recording. It was intense, probably the craziest thing I’ve ever seen,” said witness Darrius Minter.

Police say it all started in Lexington, when their suspect assaulted Officer James Winter at a gas station on Buckhorn Drive and took off. Police followed Gibbons down I-75 to exit 87 in Richmond, where he apparently drove his car into a wooded area, got out and started shooting.

“The craziest episode of ‘Cops’ you’ve seen in your life. Just imagine being front and center without a gun or a bullet proof vest,” said witness Jesse Middleton.

Witnesses say they counted about 30 shots fired in their 30 second video. They say they’re just glad no one else was hurt with so many bystanders and businesses nearby.

“He pulled the gun out of the trunk and just started shooting. It could have hit one of those gas pumps or anything, and it could have been way worse. Somebody could have got hit from that crossfire with all those bullets flying. It just a blessing that no one got hit or injured,” said Middleton.

The Lexington police officer who was assaulted before the shootout is expected to be OK.

Private Detective: Facebook Pictures Lead To The Arrests of Father and Son

A Facebook selfie, landed a Whitley County father and son in jail. Investigators said the pair posed with their marijuana plants, then put the photos on the Internet for the world to see, including the Sheriff’s Department.

In a flash and a click of a button, there was picture perfect evidence for police. “An individual had posted on Facebook some marijuana plants,” said Sheriff Colan Harrell.

The Sheriff said 20-year-old Tony Canada and his father, 45-year-old Ronald Canada, were standing next to the plants.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Harrell said even he was surprised to see the post. “This is the first time I have ever seen this,” said Harrell.

Still, when deputies got a tip to check social media, they didn’t hesitate. They said around a day after investigators saw the pictures on Facebook, the photos along with another tip, led them to Clifford Canada Road.

“I had never heard of anybody putting anything like that on Facebook before,” said a neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous. People in the area watched deputies on Friday as they scoured the land near Clifford Canada Road.

Investigators said Tony Canada showed deputies where the plants were located and told them the plants were being grown by him and family members.

“Located 14 marijuana plants, the tallest one being approximately 13 feet tall,” said Harrell. In all, investigators said they recovered around $30,000 dollars worth of drugs. Then, they told the Canadas how they got caught.

“They agreed that wasn’t a real smart thing to do,” said Harrell. While it doesn’t make much sense, neighbors said they hope these two learned their lesson.

“They shouldn’t have had it, they ought to know better. I bet they won’t do that again,” said a neighbor.

Investigators said if the father and son do plan to break the law again, then the Sheriff welcomes more pictures online. “If they have anything of contraband, put it on the Facebook again. We make house calls,” said Harrell.

The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department said they are working on warrants to arrest two other men involved in this case.

LEX 18 News asked the Ronald Canada if he or his son wanted to tell their side of the story, however they declined.

Wrongful Death Waterloo, IA Police Searching For Two Connected to Homicide Investigation

A missing person case in Waterloo has become a homicide investigation and two people are wanted for questioning.

According to a release from the Waterloo Police Department, investigators want to speak with 43-year-old Anthony Tronca and 29-year-old Jessica Ogden. Public Safety Director Daniel Trelka said both Tronca and Ogden are friends with 44-year-old Ronald Randall.

“We want to speak to them about what they might know,” said Lt. Michael McNamee with the Waterloo Police Department.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The police department received a missing-person report for Randall around 8:30 p.m. Sept. 9. Police said as part of their investigation, they searched a wooded area south of Waterloo and off Highway 218. There, they found a body believed to be Randall, police said. An official identification has not been made, but police said an autopsy performed by the State Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be homicide.

Trelka said, based on initial information, investigators knew it was more than a typical missing person case. “From the very beginning, when we first got a report, there were suspicious circumstances to it. The victim had a routine and he no longer engaged in it. It was like he walked off the face of the Earth,” Trelka said.

Tronca is the owner of AJT Auto Repair, 2014 Black Hawk Street, which police searched on Monday. One neighboring business owner says authorities have continued to watch the property. That business owner, Loren Levell, said he first noticed police activity in the middle of last week. “We were seeing unmarked cars with police sitting there and raising binoculars up to watch [AJT Auto Repair] to see what was going on,” Levell said.

Aside from saying Randall, Tronca and Ogden are friends, police have not elaborated on their relationship. However, several sources identified Jessica Ogden as Daniel Trelka’s girlfriend.

Police said Tronca and Ogden’s whereabouts is currently unknown and there is a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Tronca, who is wanted on outstanding warrants. He is also listed on the Most Wanted page operated by the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information on the investigation is asked to call the Waterloo Police Department at 319-291-4340 or Crime Stoppers at 855-300-8477.
