Prosecutors say a former Valley Center police sergeant has been charged with sexual exploitation of a child, attempted sexual battery, official misconduct and harassment.

Forty-nine-year-old Thomas Delgado made his first court appearance Friday in Sedgwick County District Court on seven counts.  The charge related to the sexual exploitation is a felony, and the others are misdemeanors.

His defense attorney did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office said in an email that Delgado is free on a $75,000 bond on condition he not contact witnesses. His preliminary hearing is set for June 7.

The Wichita Eagle reported that Delgado had been a Sedgwick County sheriff’s patrol deputy before he became a Valley Center police sergeant. He resigned after his arrest in December.

Johnson is facing a third robbery charge for an alleged home invasion that happened in the same time frame as the other robberies.

Private Detective: Man Arrested After Shooting Spree

A man is accused of going on a shooting spree early Monday morning.

Police say 19-year-old Layne Chadwell opened fire at three locations before being arrested.

Witnesses told police the shooting spree started at the Speedway on Paris Pike. Chadwell allegedly shot into the building nearly hitting an employee before taking off.

Witnesses say Chadwell fired more shots while traveling on Paris Pike, and then he allegedly struck a third time at a gas station on North Broadway with an off-duty officer nearby.

Chadwell was arrested and according to the police report, he admitted to the shootings while being questioned by officers.

He now faces a wanton endangerment charge and a wanton endangerment of a police officer charge.

His son’s mother told LEX 18 that she was devastated by the news and is not sure what caused Chadwell to open fire.

“That’s not Layne. It really isn’t. Layne wouldn’t do anything to hurt anybody. That was out of character for him,” said Kaitlin Goforth.

Chadwell was in court Tuesday afternoon. In court, a judge entered a not guilty plea for Chadwell. He is being held on a $20,000 bond. He’ll be back in court in June.

Private Detective: Possible Gunshots at Lexington Herald-Leader

Lexington police are investigating what they think were gunshots fired at the main office of the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Monday morning, employees found three exterior windows shattered along with two others damaged.

Police say that the impact marks on the glass are consistent with bullet damage.

Officers tell LEX 18 that it appears to be an act of vandalism more than someone being targeted.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“If it’s just vandalism, well that’s a shame, but vandalism is as old as humanity, I suppose. Some people just have to tear things up. That’s at least a little more comforting than thinking that it has to do with hostility towards the press, at least in my mind,” said Chuck Gutenson.

In a statement in the Herald-Leader, by its publisher, the paper plans to take immediate steps to shore up damage and increase security.
