Missing Person Remains of Missing Maryland Man Found in Virginia

Police in Virginia say human remains found near the entrance to the Appalachian Trail are that of a Maryland man who has been missing since December.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday that the remains of 36-year-old John Patrick Donohoe of Bethesda, Maryland, were found Sunday by a hiker in Front Royal, Virginia.

Police in Montgomery County, Maryland, say Donohoe was reported missing on Dec. 14. He was last seen by relatives the day before.

On Dec. 22, a woman who was shown on surveillance video using Donohoe’s credit card in a Maryland shop was arrested and charged with fraud.

Authorities say Donohoe’s remains were taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Manassas, Virginia. The cause and manner of death are under investigation.

Private Detective: Kalamazoo, Michigan Man Sentenced for Sex Trafficking

David Q. Givhan, aka “Premier,” 35, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, was sentenced to 235 months in prison by United States District Court Judge David J. Hale, after being convicted by jury of one count of sex trafficking and three counts of interstate transportation for prostitution announced United States Attorney John E. Kuhn, Jr.

“Forcible sex trafficking is effectively a form of modern day slavery,” stated United States Attorney John Kuhn. “Givhan terrorized vulnerable women through violence, threats and other actions. My Office and the Department of Justice will vigorously prosecute these brutal crimes. And today’s sentence should send a powerful message that sex trafficking will be severely punished.”

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

According to evidence and testimony presented at trial, Givhan prostituted three women for his profit at various times between October 2014 and April 2015 and transported them from Michigan to Kentucky and other states for the purpose of prostitution. He used force, fraud and coercion to compel one of the women to prostitute for him between October 2014 and March 2015. He initially recruited the woman – a single mother of three – using false promises of steady income and a better life. However, once she began earning money, he kept it all. Givhan required her to earn $1,000 a day and beat other women in front of her. Givhan also required her to tattoo his alias, “Premier,” on her neck and threatened to hurt or kill her or her family if she refused to continue prostituting for him. When she objected to his demand that she perform particular acts for customers, he sexually assaulted her. At one point, the woman tried to leave Givhan, but he found her and brought her back. On a trip to Florida, he compelled her to continue prostituting for his profit, even after she sought medical attention for severe pain and bleeding. Shortly thereafter, she managed to escape by enlisting the help of a hotel clerk and her mother.

After deliberating for under five hours, the jury found the defendant guilty on all four counts on December 13, 2016. A fifth count was dismissed during trial. Givhan remains in federal custody.

The investigation was opened when Louisville Metro Police Department officers encountered a woman Givhan had transported from Michigan to Louisville, Kentucky, during a prostitution sting coinciding with the Kentucky Derby.

The case was investigated by the FBI’s Louisville Division and Louisville Metro Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Amanda E. Gregory of the Western District of Kentucky and Trial Attorney William Nolan of the Civil Rights Division’s Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit.

Private Detective: NKU Student Faked Cancer Diagnosis

Classmates and sorority sisters rallied around a former Northern Kentucky student in her battle against stage 3 gastrointestinal cancer, or so they thought.

Police now believe she never had cancer. According to FOX 19 in Cincinnati, events were being promoted for Kelly Schmahl, who said she was very ill.

Kelly’s Klassic was put together to help raise money for medical bills.

To promote the event Schmahl wrote, “I have never been one to ask for much, especially when it comes to money and material things, but when I was diagnosed last September, financial support from those around me has become pivotal in my battle”.

According to an affidavit search warrant, police allege she fooled people out of thousands. Police said this went on from June of 2016 through March 2017.The warrant said her caregiver and others provided her with at least $7,500 dollars to help with her illness.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Police then issued a warrant for her cell phone. They said she used her cell phone as a forwarding service to receive and answer phone calls and text messages under the guise that healthcare workers were answering.

Northern Kentucky University sororities like Delta Zeta posted and hosted events for Schmal.

Delta Zeta Sorority released the following statement:

“Delta Zeta has been committed to community service since its founding in 1972. In furtherance of this commitment, Delta Zeta planned a charity event for April 22. It has recently come to our attention that DZ is the unknowing victim of a crime.  Delta Zeta, nor its members, had any knowledge of whatever activities Ms. Schmahl may have been involved in.

Delta Zeta’s planned charity event will continue on April 22 and proudly supports Chicks and Chucks, a local, 501 (c) 3 charity which serves as a resource for breast cancer patients who require products and services in their battle against cancer. All funds raised will be donated only to Chicks and Chucks.

Nationally, Delta Zeta has supported speech and hearing as its national philanthropy since 1954 and gives graciously to our communities in service and around the world as global citizens.

Because there is an ongoing criminal investigation which Delta Zeta is cooperating with and does not want to interfere with, we are unable to comment further.”

Schmahl’s parents released the following statement to FOX19. It reads:

“Our daughter is a caring, loving, yet troubled young woman who is currently undergoing treatment for issues that precipitated this pretense and the results of it.

Like others in the community, we, too, believed our daughter was seriously ill with cancer and we are all searching for answers as to why she would participate in this deception. During the time that funds were being raised for Kelly, she did not live with us and we did not actively promote any fundraising efforts.

Our family, friends, and the good people of this community who generously gave time and money to this cause are anxious to learn what happened to the money that was raised for Kelly. We do not know the answer to this question because we have never had access to these funds. However, we are cooperating with law-enforcement officials and we are hopeful they can help answer this question.

At this point, our main concern is with our daughter, who thankfully is away from this situation and getting the help she needs.”

Schmahl no longer attends Northern Kentucky University.

Delta Zeta said it will go ahead with one of the planned fundraisers for Schmahl on the April 22, but the money raised will go to Chicks and Chucks, a charity that helps breast cancer patients.

Schmahl is looking at grand theft charges or theft by deception.

Private Detective: Man With Axe, Knife Accused of Kidnapping Young Girl in Daviess Co

A man is in the Daviess County, KY jail accused of kidnapping a young girl, WFIE reports.

A sergeant with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was called to Highway 60 West between Reed and Stanley Tuesday night because a strange car pulled into a garage.

The caller didn’t know the driver and said a girl inside the car seemed scared and was crying. That deputy said 27-year-old Scott Fitzgerald was under the influence of a controlled substance.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

He didn’t know who he was or how he and the girl, who was seven years old, got there.

Authorities say they found a small axe tucked under Fitzgerald’s jacket sleeve as well as a large knife, brass knuckles and suspected meth.

The sheriff’s office says the girl told them Fitzgerald had been at her house and that he had gotten into an argument with her family and told her to get into the car.

She was safely taken back home.

Private Detective: Laundromat Burglaries Continues

Lexington police are looking for a man who has been stealing coins from laundry machines at apartment complexes.

For over a month, similar cases have been popping up across the area. All reports have happened between Versailles Road and Harrodsburg Road and between Alexandria Drive toward downtown.

“He has stolen quite a bit of money from out of all of these,” said Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department. “He’s drilling the locks, and he’s prying doors open with like a flat tipped screwdriver or some sort of a pry bar to get in, and then once he’s into the laundry rooms themselves, he goes to work drilling all of the locks off the laundry machines.”

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Not only is the change he is stealing adding up, but so is the amount of costly damage to the machines.

“He’s got quite a few felonies stacked up against him as soon as we figure out who he is,” said Thomas.

There could be other people involved in the 11 burglaries throughout the region, but only one man has been seen on camera.

“We’re not looking to just throw him behind bars and throw away the key,” said Thomas. “We want to get these guys rehabilitated. We want to get them help, cause ultimately when we talk to them, they’re not evil people most of the time, they’re just extreme addicts.”

If you have any information about any of the laundromat burglaries, your tip could get you a cash reward from Bluegrass Crime Stoppers. You can submit your tip by calling (859) 253-2020 or by texting your information to ‘CRIMES’. Just put ‘LEX PD’ in the message along with your tip.
