Lexington police are looking for a man who has been stealing coins from laundry machines at apartment complexes.
For over a month, similar cases have been popping up across the area. All reports have happened between Versailles Road and Harrodsburg Road and between Alexandria Drive toward downtown.
“He has stolen quite a bit of money from out of all of these,” said Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department. “He’s drilling the locks, and he’s prying doors open with like a flat tipped screwdriver or some sort of a pry bar to get in, and then once he’s into the laundry rooms themselves, he goes to work drilling all of the locks off the laundry machines.”

Not only is the change he is stealing adding up, but so is the amount of costly damage to the machines.
“He’s got quite a few felonies stacked up against him as soon as we figure out who he is,” said Thomas.
There could be other people involved in the 11 burglaries throughout the region, but only one man has been seen on camera.
“We’re not looking to just throw him behind bars and throw away the key,” said Thomas. “We want to get these guys rehabilitated. We want to get them help, cause ultimately when we talk to them, they’re not evil people most of the time, they’re just extreme addicts.”
