Two Laurel County people were taken into custody after five young children were found living in deplorable conditions.
According to a press release from the Laurel County Sheriff’s office, Vicki and Rick Smith were taken into custody after deputies responded to a complain at the home. Officials say they found five children, ranging from the ages of seven to 13, in the residence.
The arrest citation says that the home had deplorable living conditions. Windows were missing, there was no electricity in the residence. The house had no food and no place for the children to sleep.

In addition, deputies say they located a meth pipe with residue and straws with residue.
Rick Smith was charged with five counts of wanton endangerment – second-degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, he was charged with burglary – second-degree and theft by unlawful taking under $500.
Vicki Smith was charged with five counts of wanton endangerment – second-degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Social services was called to the scene and the children were removed and placed by social services. The two were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
