Wrongful Death Teen Pleads Not Guilty in Gas Station Murder

A Lexington teenager accused of gunning down a gas station clerk has answered to a judge for the first time in the case Wednesday.

Mukeshbhai “Mike” Patel, 51, was shot and killed during a robbery at the Marathon station on Alexandria Drive on Monday. On Wednesday, Travis Bredhold, 18, entered a not guilty plea in the case.

Detectives say the surveillance video showed a Nissan Altima leaving the crime scene after the shooting. It was a car that had been reported stolen earlier, and the owner of that car happened to have a photo of the man they believed took it. That photo was later shown to Bredhold’s foster parents, who identified him as the person in the picture.

The 18-year-old was arrested at Fayette Mall Tuesday, where police say they found a loaded handgun, marijuana and nearly $570 in cash.
