Identity Theft Scam in Bakersfield, CA, Caller Claims To Be Police

The Bakersfield Police Department has received several calls today from business owners reporting that they have received unsolicited calls from individuals purporting to be a Bakersfield police detective asking for credit card information. The Bakersfield Police Department is reminding citizens that Bakersfield police detectives and officers will not call for identifying information over the phone unless in response to an ongoing investigation where the victim has been in contact with an investigator and established a relationship with that detective or officer.

The police department is also reminding citizens to never give personal identifying information over the phone unless the individual is initiating the phone call and has an established relationship with the entity they are contacting.
