Private Detective, Wolfe County Homeowner Holds Suspects at Gunpoint

A Wolfe County homeowner comes home from work to find two strangers on his property.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived to the home on Stamper Branch Road Tuesday afternoon, they found the homeowners holding the two suspects at gunpoint.

There were two guys,” Wolfe County Deputy Albert Lykins said. “One was on the front porch and the other came from outside around the house. There appeared to be a break-in or someone inside his house.”

Deputies said that Jasper Tate and Matthew Marshall first tried to run away from the homeowner.

“At that time he pulled out his gun and told them to get on the ground,” Lykins said. “By that time he didn’t so he fired a warning shot in the air and then they listened to his commands.”

The suspects had knives on them and a baton. Officials said they got into the home through a bedroom window.

“The gun safe had been messed with but nothing was taken from inside the residence,” Lykins said.

Tate and Marshall have been charged with criminal trespass, criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance.

Both are being held in the Three Forks Regional Jail. The Wolfe County Sheriff’s Office said they could face more charges.
