Wrongful Death Pulaski Co. Sheriff’s Office Seek Answers in Hit and Run Case

Nearly two months after a man was found dead on the side of a Pulaski County road, there are still no leads. The Sheriff’s office say they’ve received very few tips in the death of Ricky Meredith.

45-year-old Ricky Meredith’s body was discovered by a crew working along Highway 452. Investigators say Meredith was the victim of an apparent hit and run. Still, months later, exactly how this all played out remains a mystery.

Shortly after learning of her son’s death, Betty Jones begged for answers.

“If they would just come forward and tell me what happened to him, that’s all I want to know,” said Jones in tears.

That hasn’t happened and there are still many questions in the case.

Some of the information investigators say they have comes from Meredith’s girlfriend. She told deputies that Meredith left their home the night of Sunday, July 6, walking toward Highway 27. Sometime after that, deputies say Meredith was hit by a vehicle and the driver kept going, maybe unaware of what actually happened.

“Given the darkness of the night, this person may have been on the edge of the roadway, possibly even have fallen down, so he would’ve been low to the ground it’s possible that someone could’ve struck him without even seeing him,” says Lt. Brett Whitaker.

The few tips they have received have led nowhere.

“We don’t know who this vehicle is or who this driver was so this would be a difficult case to solve without the public,” says Lt. Whitaker.
