Hiem Tran was reported missing by her family days ago when she disappeared after leaving the family’s nail salon with the night deposit.
But it wasn’t until a car crash that this investigation took a bizarre twist.
Tran hit another driver at Valencia College Lane and Chickasaw Trail Monday night, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.
But when Channel 9’s Shannon Butler started asking questions about the case, she learned law enforcement agencies didn’t agree that Tran’s death was an accident.

On Monday night, Orlando police got a call that Tran was missing. What they didn’t know was that she had been in a car accident.
But what happened to her prior to the crash is still a mystery.
She died Thursday and there is no definitive answer as to why.
Orlando police sources said Tran left the Emerald Nails and Tan salon around 7 p.m. with a few thousand dollars to do the nightly deposit.
When she didn’t come home later that night, her family called police to report her missing.
An hour later, an off-duty police officer from Apopka saw her car crash into another car near Valencia College.
The officer performed CPR on Tran. A 911 call was made and a sheriff’s deputy responded, but the deputy called the Florida Highway Patrol to investigate the crash.
An FHP spokesperson said the trooper didn’t think the woman’s injuries were caused by the crash and suspected foul play, but continued to investigate after expressing that to the deputy.
Sources told Channel 9 that a doctor also thought the woman’s injuries were not caused by the crash and that there were suspicious punctures to her neck.
On Tuesday, FHP met with Orange County deputies to talk about inconsistencies in the case.
Three days later, Channel 9’s Butler tried to get answers about what happened to Tran.
Orlando police won’t talk about the missing person call. The sheriff’s office said they are investigating, but won’t confirm if it’s an accident or a crime.
They’re waiting on the medical examiner’s office before making a determination.
An autopsy is expected to be performed Friday and detectives hope it will solve the mystery.
FHP troopers said they were so suspicious of the injuries that they closed up the car and kept it for the sheriff’s office, untouched, so a proper investigation could be conducted.
Tran’s nephew, who did not want to be identified, spoke to Channel 9 reporter Ryan Hughes.
He said he and his family know little about what happened and are hoping for answers soon.
