Drug Dog Sweep Seized 74 Lbs of Marijuana in Amarillo, TX

Potter County sheriff’s deputies arrested two people and seized 74 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $259,000 during a traffic stop Wednesday, Lt. Patrick Zamora said.

Deputies arrested Abraham Vang, 44, and Xiong Chongneng, 43, both of Milwaukee, Wis., after the pair were pulled over in a 2015 Kia Optima about 9 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 40 near Soncy Road, authorities said.

The deputy grew suspicious during the stop and asked for permission to search the vehicle, Zamora said, which Chongneng denied. Instead, the deputy sent for a Potter County drug dog to sniff around the vehicle.

The dog indicated the presence of drugs in the trunk of the car, Zamora said. Deputies searched the vehicle and uncovered about 74 pounds marijuana hidden in 59 individual packages stuffed inside trash bags, a gray nylon bag and a suit case, Zamora said.

Vang and Chongneng were booked into Potter County jail on second-degree felony charges of possession of marijuana in an amount more than 50 pounds but less than 2,000 pounds, jail records show.
