Wrongful Death Police Investigate Three Murders in Two Days

Lexington’s latest homicide involves a marine killed early Tuesday morning while sleeping inside of his house.

Police said Thomas Brown, 55, was asleep with his wife at their house on Gerald Drive in the Winburn neighborhood. Around 2 a.m. someone fired several shots through a side and back window, hitting Brown three or four times. Brown was taken to UK Hospital where he died about an hour later.

Brown’s wife and another man inside of the home were not hurt.

There were a total of eight bullet holes visible in the windows.

“I just heard a couple of popping sounds,” Caroline Benford, a neighbor told LEX 18’s Josh Breslow. “I went to open the door and the police are knocking at my door.. It happens everywhere in the city. It just happened to have happened here to us, this time.”

Nine people have been shot in Lexington since Sunday. That includes two murders late Sunday.

Montez Graves, 31, was killed Sunday evening when he and his brother were shot while inside of a car along Whitney Avenue. Two hours later, Graves’ uncle, Ronnie Graves was murdered on nearby Charles Avenue.

Police have not said if they believe Brown’s murder could be connected to Sunday’s killings.

“We actually just met last week and talked about what are we gonna do because we know every summer we see a spike in crime so what is our plan and how are we gonna work with our neighborhoods to try to keep crime down,” said Catrena Bowman with the Community Action Council.

Anyone with information on any of the murders is asked to contact the Lexington Police Department at (859)258-3600 or Bluegrass Crime Stoppers at (859)253-2020.
