Private Detective: Mother Searches For People Who Received Organ Donations From Her Son

A Kentucky mother’s mission for closure, is making waves online. More than 14 years after her young son was killed in Lexington, Anita Cooper is searching for the people he saved through organ donation.

More than a decade ago, on Russell Cave Road, 9-year old Davey Dunavant was crushed by an uprooted tree while sitting in a hammock.

“I said, keep talking to me Davey. And I kept looking at him and he said mommy, and I said Davey, and he said I love you,” said Anita. She remembers the last moments with her son, just as she remembers his smile.

“The smile in his eyes. A lot of love,” said Anita.

With the love she has in her heart, Anita is on a mission for closure. She wants to find the part of Davey that still lives in the many people he saved through organ donation.

“If I don’t meet the people, whoever it may be, I just want to see what a picture of them looks like. That way I can say, that’s what Davey did,” said Anita.

On Sunday Anita went online, and posted this message on Facebook. Then in a matter of hours, it was shared dozens of times.

“I just started typing please keep sharing. I wanted to know how far it was going to go,” said Anita. “And now it shows 186.”

With the help of the public, Anita hopes her message reaches the right people.

“I want them to know that he was awesome,” said Anita.

It’s memory to help ease her own pain.

“A lot of closure. I would be able to just keep going,” said Anita.

For now, she’ll keep searching, and is asking everyone to sign up for organ donation, in honor of Davey.
