Private Detective: Man Stole Vehicle From EKU

A Madison County man is in jail after police say he took a vehicle belonging to Eastern Kentucky University among other items.

EKU Police say John Hutchinson, 26, entered into the Martin House off Summit Street in Richmond, taking a Toyota Sienna belonging to Eastern Kentucky University. In addition, Hutchinson took a pearl necklace, a Cannon Rebel Camera, projector, and a tablet, all totaling more than $2,500.

A witness identified Hutchinson in the Toyota Sienna and was able to identify him to police. Multiple items stolen were recovered at pawn shops across Lexington. The vehicle police say Hutchinson stole, was damaged when located.

Hutchinson was also charged in connection to several other incidents, including cashing stolen checks.

Police say he attempted to hide in the attic of his home in an attempt to evade arresting officers.

The total value of all property taken was around $11,600. Hutchinson was booked into the Madison County Detention Center, charged with multiple counts of burglary, theft by unlawful taking and criminal mischief.
