Pedophile Tracking Woman Sentenced to 40 Years for Sex Abuse of Two Girls

A former Lacy Lakeview woman who participated in the three-year sexual abuse of two young girls, including one who had a baby as a result of the abuse, was sentenced to 40 years in prison Monday.

Peggy Sue Knox, 37, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, seven counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child by contact.

In exchange for her guilty pleas, prosecutors dismissed one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child, a charge that carries a minimum of 25 years in prison up to a maximum sentence of life with no parole.

Judge Ralph Strother of Waco’s 19th State District Court sentenced Knox to 40 years in prison on the two aggravated charges and 20 years each on the remaining eight counts.

Knox will serve the sentences concurrently and will have to serve at least 20 years before she can be considered for parole.

Knox initially agreed to the plea bargain, but balked Monday when it came time for her hearing. She later changed her mind again, ultimately accepting the plea offer.

The two girls, family members of Knox, cried during victim-impact statements Monday after Knox was sentenced. Despite the abuse, the girls said they love her. The older girl, who is now 15, told Knox she is going to be a good mother to the child she had in May 2015 as a result of the sexual abuse.

Knox’s attorney, Jack Hurley, declined comment after the hearing.

Knox and her common-law husband, Terry Wayne Harrison, 55, were arrested last year after the older girl’s pregnancy sparked investigations by police and Child Protective Services.

They both are alleged to have sexually abused the girls at a home in Lacy Lakeview from November 2012 to 2015 beginning when the girls were 11 and 12 years old.

Investigators say Harrison fathered the child and alleged that Knox not only was aware of and condoned the abuse but participated in the sexual assaults.

Harrison remains in the McLennan County Jail. His charges are pending and no trial date is set, court officials said Monday.

Private Detective: Explosive Materials Found in Harlan Connected to Sawaf Case

Police are investigating after several new explosive devices were found in the woods in Harlan County.

The Harlan Daily Enterprise is reporting the IEDs are connected to the case of Mark Sawaf. Sawaf is the individual accused of leaving trail cams in the woods near Harlan over the summer.

This new investigation began after someone reported finding explosive materials near Sawaf’s home. Sawaf was originally arrested by the ATF in June and was accused of making the explosive devices and leaving them for innocent people to find.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The paper is reporting that a man found a suspicious orange cooler in the woods on Horton Street last Thursday.

Police eventually opened up that cooler and found suspicious chemicals, explosive devices, and other bomb making materials.

Police Chief Mike Thomas told the Daily Enterprise that the materials are related to the Sawaf case.

Sawaf was shot and killed by a member of the Lexington Fire Department during an altercation. State troopers say Sawaf tried to flee while helping law enforcement find more explosives.

Private Detective: Paintsville Mayor Convicted of Misusing City Funds

Paintsville Mayor Robert Porter has been found guilty of misappropriating property and city resources.

A federal jury in London, Ky., convicted Porter on 2 of the three counts of theft of federal funds and one count of bribery.  The jury returned the verdict after more than three hours of deliberation, following four days of trial.

One of Porter’s co-defendants, Larry Herald, the former general manager of the Paintsville Utilities Commission, previously pleaded guilty to lying to an FBI agent about his knowledge of Porter’s delinquent utility bills.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Evidence presented at the trial established that, from 2009 until 2012, Porter, with the knowledge, approval and assistance of Herald, did not pay for utilities services provided to residences that he owned in Paintsville.  The total delinquency was in excess of $7,000.  The evidence also revealed that Porter used thousands of dollars in city and federal funds to pay for personal expenses, such as: maintenance and repairs on his personal automobiles, gasoline for personal trips, and shipping fees for personal items.  Evidence at the trial also established that Porter used a city owned vehicle, seized from a drug investigation by the Paintsville Police Department, for personal trips.

Kerry B. Harvey, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Howard S. Marshall, Special Agent in Charge, FBI, and Richard W. Sanders, Kentucky State Police Commissioner, jointly made the announcement.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI and the Kentucky State Police.  Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ken Taylor and Andrew Boone are prosecuting this case on behalf of the federal government.  Porter is scheduled to be sentenced on January 12.  Misappropriating federal property and bribery of a public official each carries a maximum penalty of 10 years and making false statements to a federal agent carries a maximum penalty of five years.  However, any sentence following a conviction will be imposed after the Court carefully considers the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and the federal statutes.

Missing Person Unidentified Human Remains Found Near Where Man Went Missing

Authorities in eastern Kentucky say human remains have been found in the woods near where a man went missing more than nine months ago.

Local news outlets report that officials spent most of Tuesday combing through the area where the remains were discovered. Investigators have not identified the remains and are therefore unable to say whether they belong to William “Scottie” Fannin.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Fannin was last seen Dec. 10 near his home in the Milo community of Martin County. Police have said they suspect foul play in Fannin’s disappearance.

Kentucky State Police spokesman Steven Mounts says the investigation is still in its beginning stage, and that they’re treating the case as an unknown person until the remains are identified.

Missing Person Family is Hopeful 1 Year After Russell Co. Mother Disappears

It’s been one year since anyone last saw Whitney Copley, a young mother of two children.

Copley was 24-years-old when she told her family she was going to a party and never came home.

The following day she sent her sister, Sarah, a message through Facebook.

Sarah says that was the last time anyone had contact with her, “she said that she was coming home and that everything was fine and that she had had a bad day and that was really all we had said to each other and then I never received a message back.”

Sarah says it’s not like Whitney to vanish without a trace, “even if something was wrong she would’ve told me I don’t think she really had any idea that something was wrong at that time.”

One year later, investigators with Kentucky State Police are no closer to finding the mother of two.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The family says Whitney’s disappearance has been hard but what’s more painful is not being able to answer her daughter’s questions.

“Her little girl sits down every day and writes her letter and cries and says ‘is my mommy coming home?’ and we don’t know what to say.”

Sarah says no matter how long it takes for Whitney to come home they’ll carry on as if someday she will.

We had a birthday party for her we keep her a place at the table for Christmas and Thanksgiving all we can do is hope one day she’ll be sitting there and everything will be ok,” Sarah said.

Copley’s family will be holding a candlelight vigil on Saturday at the Russell Springs First Baptist Church at 6 p.m. central time.
