An elderly woman was attacked during a home invasion last night in Lexington.
Family members tell us a woman was violently choked and stabbed by a man who broke into the home on Dogwood Drive. The man stole the woman’s wallet.

The woman’s granddaughter tells LEX 18 that this is the second break in at the home in recent months. She says her grandmother is currently stable at UK Hospital.
Police confirm that an incident did happen at the home overnight.
A Mount Sterling company is under investigation amid allegations of identity theft by an employee in the company’s human resources department.
The Montgomery County Sheriff Department and the management of Cooper Standard are investigating allegations of identity theft by human resources employee. The company has confirmed that one person has reported being impacted and a criminal complaint has been filed with the Montgomery County Sheriff Department.

The name of person being investigated has not been released. However, a Human Resources Manager at Cooper Standard confirmed to lex 18 that Stephanie Carpenter resigned her position in the human resources department.
She had been with the company for two and a half years.
A Union man is under arrest after deputies say he sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl several times over the course of a year.
Carl Lester Warner, 62, is charged with criminal sexual assault of a minor by the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff says the victim told deputies about the assaults after a report was filed to it’s office on Sunday afternoon.

Warner lives at a home on Jonesville-Lockhart Highway in Union.
No other information on the case was released by the Union County Sheriff on Monday morning.
Investigators have ended a crime spree involving two teenage girls in a Frankfort neighborhood.
The girls are accused of smashing mailboxes, stealing a black Ford F-250 and shooting the windows out of people’s homes with a pellet gun.
Candace Headley says that she just moved her family into the neighborhood when the girls stole her son’s truck for a joy ride.

It was recovered a few days later.
“They took the truck Tuesday morning at about 4 in the morning,” said Headley. “That evening, they came and walked into our neighborhood and got approached by our neighbors at around 8 o’clock that evening.”
The crime spree was unraveling due in part to the number of surveillance cameras in the neighborhood.
Headley says that the cameras caught the girls coming into the neighborhood on foot, so she assumed they lived close by.
LEX 18 cannot release the names of the teenagers because of their age.
The county attorney will determine what charges they will face.
A man suffered critical injuries after walked into the path of a vehicle as the driver tried to turn left on US 25.
Deputies say a Chevy Blazer was stopped on American Greeting Card Road traveling eastbound when the driver, 59-year-old Emmitt Gibson of Lily, tried to turn left to go northbound on US 25. At the same time, deputies say 55-year-old Clerndon Smith of London attempted to walk across US 25 from American Greeting Card Road and allegedly ran in the Chevy’s path.

Smith was thrown onto the hood of the vehicle and received critical injuries.
Smith is at UK Hospital in Lexington to be treated for his injuries.
Ashley Monroe, a former Idaho resident, was sentenced on July 25, 2016, on one count of insurance fraud for filing a false claim with her insurance carrier, USAA. The Idaho Department of Insurance fraud unit investigated the claim.
Monroe reported that her diamond engagement ring fell off her hand and into a storm drain while she was getting into her car. USAA paid her $2,955 for the ring. Department of Insurance investigators discovered that Monroe had pawned the ring and that it was still in the pawn shop when the claim was filed. Investigators also learned that she had pawned the same ring at least twice after receiving the claim money.

Monroe was charged with one count of insurance fraud and one count of theft by extortion. She pleaded guilty to one count of insurance fraud and was sentenced in Ada County. She was granted a withheld judgment and placed on felony supervised probation for three years, and was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,240,50 and serve 20 days in jail.
Department Director Dean Cameron says, “A fraudulent claim may not seem like a big deal on the surface. But according to FBI estimates, insurance fraud costs the average U.S. family between $400 and $700 per year in the form of increased premiums.”
This case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Nicole Schafer of the Idaho Attorney General’s Insurance Crimes Unit.
Troopers say a man has been arrested in connection with a shooting investigation in Campbellsville.
According to police, Steven Dean Hewitt, 24 of Greensburg, is now in their custody.
Police say that Hewitt had been holed up in a home on Indian Trail for hours.

The Taylor County Hospital contacted the Campbellsville 911 center at approximately 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday to report that a woman was being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. Hewitt has been charged with first-degree assault for that. Police tell LEX 18 that the victim is okay.
The KSP Special Response team fired chemical munitions into the home around 3:00 p.m. Hewitt and all of the occupants of the home exited the home.
Hewitt is also believed to be involved in a kidnapping that was reported to the Campbellsville Police Department Thursday at 6:30 a.m.
A man is in custody after a clerk stopped the attempted robbery of a Lexington gas station.
It happened at the Shell near Newtown Pike and Hackney Place overnight. Police say a man came in and implied he had a weapon. The clerk detained the man and held the suspect until police arrived.

Police tell LEX 18 that the clerk was armed and held the suspect at gunpoint.
The suspect was taken into custody for questioning. 19-year-old Kenneth Hopkins has been charged with first degree robbery. He is being held in the Fayette County Detention Center.
Kentucky State Police and Lexington Police have taken in man accused of holding his wife and child against their will into custody.
Police began searching after a woman told a store owner in Richmond she was being held against her will.
The manager of LOVE’s Truck Stop in Richmond told police that a woman came in Thursday morning and told one of the clerks she was being held by her husband who was in the car. She got back into the car with the individuals.

The car in question was a gray Toyota Corolla. The vehicle was spotted in Lexington at the Thoroughbred Center. Police swarmed the grounds and found the suspect, identified as Jeff Rowland Sr.
Workers on site tell LEX 18 that the man is a long-time employee of the Thoroughbred Center.
Official sources believe the incident originally started in Clark County, where there is an extensive background of abuse.
The Mount Sterling Police Department have arrested a man on disturbing charges out of Michigan.
According to a post on Facebook, Police say they arrested Ronald Triplett on charges of rape, kidnapping, sodomy and criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Triplett was taken into custody without incident and will be turned over to authorities in Michigan.
