Private Detective: Man Charged in Connection With Horses Seized From Mercer Co. Farm

State officials who seized six sickly horses from a Mercer County farm say a celebrated horse trainer may be responsible.

The state veterinarian’s office took the thoroughbreds from the farm Tuesday. Investigators say they believe horse trainer Maria Borell, whose horse “Run Happy” won the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Sprint, was caring for the animals.

Angie Cheak is one of the volunteers who has been caring for the 43 horses on the property. She says pictures don’t capture how sickly the horses looked when she found them.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“The water, the feed, the hay situation–was dire. If they had… it was horrible,” Cheak said.

She says some had deep sores and hoof damage, and some were so dehydrated that she couldn’t read the tattoos to tell who owned them.

“This could not have happened in a little bit of time. This happened over months and years,” Cheak said.

The Sheriff says Borell hasn’t returned his calls and the Kentucky Racing Commission has her license on hold for trouble with creditors.

The Kentucky State Veterinarian’s Office says that officials with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture  have charged Chuck Borell, Maria Borell’s father, with 43 counts of second-degree cruelty to animals in connection with the sickly horses seized from the farm.

Chuck Borell was taken into custody and turned over to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, according to Dr. Robert Stout.

Officials say they have a warrant out for Maria Borrell.

The Thoroughbred Retired Foundation has taken on all six of the horses. Two of which were Silver Cliff and Z Camelot. The two horses will be cared for by inmates at Blackburn Correctional Facility, where TRF has a farm. Identities for the rest of the horses have not been released.

Volunteers are relying on donations to help feed the remaining horses. A Gofundme page has raised more than $13,000 for feed and veterinary care. Click here if you’d like to contribute: https://www.gofundme.com/AbandonedHorseFund

Identity Theft Palm Beach County Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Charges

A 28-year-old Palm Beach County man has pleaded guilty to his part in a stolen identity tax refund fraud conspiracy that targeted students and others.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

It was during a traffic stop of Scarlett on Sept. 20, 2011, that a Florida Highway Patrol trooper found a trove: 92 Wal-Mart pre-paid debit cards, printouts of stolen information on hundreds of people, and more than 50 Palm Beach County School Board’ printouts with students’ names, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth. The trooper also found two computers, two memory sticks and a cell phone.

Prosecutors said Scarlett earned $1,000 to $2,000 a week selling the fake cards. And on a computer, investigators found 228 separate login user identifications used to file false additional returns claiming bout $290,000.

Private Detective: Thief Hides in Store’s Ice Machine

A man looking at security footage on his phone watched as a thief stole cigarettes from his Franklin County store.

Vick Sidhu says that he got a call from a security company saying that the store’s burglary alarm was activated.

Sidhu told LEX 18’s Leigh Searcy that the man walked behind the counter to steal cigarettes. Sidhu called the police. He says that the accused, Nelson Yanez, stuffed cigarette packs in his arms and then got one of the store’s trash bags to fill with cigarettes.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“It took me aback for a second when I saw somebody here,” said Sidhu.

A police officer went to Blue’s Store, but that didn’t faze Yanez.

Sidhu says that Yanez told the officer, “go away, we are closed.”

“When the cop knocked on the window and says, ‘hey, what are you doing over here?’ He tries to tell the cop, ‘we’re closed. Go away,’,” said Sidhu.

When other officers came into the store, Yanez hid in the store’s non-working ice machine.

Sidhu believes a recently fired employee may have given Yanez a key to the store because there weren’t any broken windows or doors.
