Pedophile Tracking 71 Year Old Charlotte, NC Man Sentenced

A Charlotte man who was scheduled to go on trial this week in a child sexual abuse case has pleaded guilty, the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office said Thursday.

Joseph Hansford McCallister, 71, elected to plead guilty to one count of lewd act upon a child and one count of criminal sexual conduct with a minor — 3rd degree, according to the Solicitor’s Office and court records.

Evidence presented at the plea hearing established that between May 2010 and December 2013, the defendant would regularly travel to Greenville County from his residence in Charlotte to visit the minor victim and her family, prosecutors said.

During these visits, prosecutors said, they would drive together to go out to eat and run errands,

“It was during these car rides the defendant would sit next to the victim and rub her vaginal area over and under her clothing,” Solicitor Walt Wilkins said in a statement.

“This conduct began when the child was approximately nine years old and lasted until she grew brave enough to tell the defendant to stop,” Wilkins said.

McCallister was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment suspended to one year active incarceration and five years probation by the Honorable Judge Stephen John.

McCallister will have to serve at least 85 percent of the one-year sentence before he’s eligible for parole.

He’ll also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and will be placed on GPS monitoring upon his release from the Department of Corrections, Wilkins said.

Private Detective: Craigslist Scams

A scam is going around on sites such as Craigslist.

It has been around for years, but many don’t know about it.

Andrew Howell was almost scammed when he posted tail lights from an old car on Craigslist.

The two tail lights were $200, but instead, the buyer “accidentally” sent him two money orders for about $1,800 a piece.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The buyer then told Howell through text to deposit the money orders into his account and to take out the difference.

Howell then questioned whether or not the money orders were real.

“He was very pushy even after I told him I was going to the police department because they looked fake,” said Howell.

The man told Howell he was a legit business man, but the two money orders were identical. They had the same signatures and same serial numbers.

WalMart confirmed that the money orders were fake.

Lexington Police tell LEX 18 that this scam happens several times a day and that Howell was lucky he picked up on it.

“I could see this happening to many, many people, it’s kind of sad,” said Howell.

Missing Person Simon Powell of Burke County, GA

This has been a trying week for loved ones and friends of a missing man in Burke County.  Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office are searching for 63-year-old Simon Powell after he left home Wednesday, June 1 and never returned.

“I just pray that somebody will come up and give us some closure,” a niece said while looking at a picture of Powell, her uncle.

The Burke County family is waiting in faith for Powell, who went missing last week from his River Road home.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Tanesha Brown, another niece said, “It just seems unreal right now.  It just seems puzzling and it’s very unreal.”

Brown and Powell’s son, one of three adult children, a wife and several relatives want him back home.

“I want him to walk through the door right now,” said Brown.

Investigators with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office said Powell left his River Road home in his truck, a 2012 Ford Pickup truck.  Investigators located the truck they believe Powell left home in that night on Wilson Road the next morning, but it was burned.  Those investigators said the truck was placed there.  This makes searching for Powell difficult because they don’t know where to look for him.

His family tells News Channel 6 that he never really left home at night and they aren’t sure where he could have been going.  What they do know is he was wearing a blue shirt and blue pants, both Dickies.

“He had something to do every day, but not particularly at night to just leave his house and not tell anyone that he will be gone for a long time,” Brown explained.

The family keeps looking at photos of Powell, a logger by trade, trying to understand what’s going on and it’s their hope someone notifies Burke County Sheriff’s Office with a tip and he returns home.

“He is a family man.  He is a loving person.  He did anything he could to help anybody.  So, if anybody knows anything they need to please send him home,” urged Brown.

Private Detective: Lynch, KY Chief of Police Arrested on Drug and Weapon Charges

Last Friday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Kentucky State Police (KSP) arrested Lynch, Kentucky Chief of Police Jackie Keith Stewart following a federal indictment on conspiracy to distribute cocaine, cocaine base, methamphetamine, and suboxone; conspiracy to distribute cocaine; and sale of a firearm to a known convicted felon. Also arrested and indicted on the same charges was Rettie D. Morris, the girlfriend of Stewart.

Last July, the FBI and the United States Attorney’s Offices for both districts of Kentucky, identified corruption as the number one criminal threat in Kentucky. The FBI pledged to root out corruption at all levels and begin the long process of cleaning up Kentucky.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

As evidenced today, as well as in March and June of this year with other corruption arrests, we are seeing the fruits of our labor. No matter what position is held or what title is carried—whether the town dog catcher or those in the highest levels of government—we will find corrupt Kentucky officials and hold them accountable.

Today is another step in our effort to clean up Kentucky.
