Missing Person Silver Alert Issued For Hamden, CT Man

A Silver Alert has been issued for Matthew Sawyer, 30, of Hamden.

Sawyer is described as a white male with blond hair and blue eyes. He stands about 6 feet tall and weighs about 250 pounds. He was reportedly last seen wearing dark-colored pants, a black and white striped shirt and a blue jacket.

Sawyer went missing early Thursday. Anyone with any information about his whereabouts should call Hamden police at 203-230-4000.

Sawyer was one of four men accused in October of starting a brawl at Chip’s restaurant in Orange. He and two others were charged with risk of injury to a minor and breach of the peace after a table flipped over in the melee and reportedly landed on an elderly person and a small child.

At that time, Orange police said Sawyer was living in Bridgeport.

State judicial records show Sawyer had been released on $500 bond and is to appear May 9 in Derby court in that case. He has not entered a plea on either charge. A message was left Thursday for his attorney in that case.

Private Detective: Lexington Police Investigating Robbery Outside of Walmart

Lexington police are investigating an unusual robbery that happened on Lexington’s north side.

A man collecting donations for the Veterans Outreach Program outside of the Walmart on Russell Cave says a white man in a hoodie ripped away his donation jar and the table to which it was attached. He claims the man then threw the items in a pickup truck. The pickup truck was caught on surveillance footage.

The victim’s daughter says her father was injured and taken to the hospital as a precaution. He also says a handgun was used.

“They drug my dad up to there.  He was holding the table and they drug him clear across the parking lot there.  But the jug is bolted down, you know what I mean?  So they had to take the table and all and they threw that in the back of the pickup,” said the victim’s daughter Ashley Brock.

Private Detective: Couple Arrested After Children Attend School With Burns

A Laurel County couple has been indicted after teachers say a student showed up to school with severe burns on his hands in January.

The couple claims it started out as a game.

James Stark and Amanda Crow are charged with criminal abuse of children and wanton endangerment after investigators say Stark poured lighter fluid on the hands of Crow’s children and lit them on fire. He claimed he was trying to teach the children, ages seven and ten, not to play with fire.

Investigators say Stark, 28, said in an interview that it was all just a game.

The seven-year-old child showed up to school with second degree burns on the back of his hands.

“They said he had flimsy band-aids on his hand and there was some ooziness coming from the burns,” said Detective Stacy Anderkin with London Police.

Crow is charged with complicity.

“Mrs. Crow failed to stop his actions and she also failed to seek medical attention for the children,” said Anderkin.

The children are now in the care of relatives and Crow and Stark are in the Laurel County Detention Center.
