Private Detective: Person Claiming to Be Fugitive Eric Conn Lays Out Demands for Surrender

Someone claiming to be a fugitive Kentucky lawyer at the center of a nearly $600 million Social Security fraud case has contacted a newspaper to spell out proposed terms of his surrender.

Disability lawyer Eric C. Conn, who disappeared a month before his sentencing, faces an outstanding FBI warrant for his arrest. The Lexington Herald-Leader  reports the terms received in an email to the newspaper included that Conn not be charged with crimes related to fleeing. Among other suggested terms for surrender include a request that they be made available for public review.

Conn’s attorney, Scott White, told The Associated Press on Sunday that he also received an email with some of the same details and is convinced it was from his client due in part to Conn’s particular style of writing. He added that “my certainty is 99 percent.” White said the terms outlined in both the email to him and to the newspaper were identical, adding that “sealed it for me.”

White said that after looking into attorney-client restrictions, he provided some information to the FBI.

The AP was unable to confirm whether the emails were from Conn.

FBI spokesman David Habich only said Sunday that the agency is trying to locate him.

The FBI has said Conn’s electronic monitoring device was found June 2 in Lexington, Kentucky, in a backpack along Interstate 75.

A $20,000 reward has been offered for information leading authorities to Conn, who pleaded guilty in March to stealing from the federal government and bribing a judge. He faces up to 12 years in prison and has agreed to pay the government tens of millions of dollars.

According to the email sent to the newspaper Friday, the person claiming to be Conn said he fled because he believed it was unjust that two convicted judges would receive less prison time.

Former Social Security Administration judge David Daugherty faces up to four years in prison for taking more than $600,000 in bribes in cases involving Conn’s clients, authorities said. Charlie Paul Andrus, a former chief judge in the SSA’s Huntington office, faces up to 10 years on one count of conspiracy to retaliate against a witness, they added.

The email to the newspaper accused the U.S. justice system of ensuring that “the country’s political class receives preferential treatment” while the “politically powerless are treated with extreme disdain.”

Ned Pillersdorf, who represents Conn’s former clients, took offense to the comments, saying in a Facebook post Sunday that the fraud victims are the ones who are powerless. He said the victims, “at least those who have not committed suicide, have been left to deal with homelessness, despair, and misery.”

Pedophile Tracking Ohio Teen Says She Met Man on App

Middletown Police in Ohio are investigating a possible sex crime involving a teen who met a man on the Whisper App.

WLWT 5 reports the online smartphone application allows users to create posts and connect with others in their area.

Middletown Police say they received a report last week about a sex offense involving a teenage girl and a 33-year-old man.

According to the police report, the girl posted on Whisper that she needed a ride home from summer school at Marshall High School in Middletown.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

“She advised that they chatted about making plans to pick her up and that during that conversation on Messenger, he had asked her to perform (a sex act) on him and she refused,” the report said. “She stated that she still arranged for him to come pick her up, even though she knew it was a bad idea at the time.”

Police said the girl was picked up and the man drove to an area near Bavarian Woods apartments.

“She advised that he locked the truck doors and when he parked, he forced her to perform (a sex act) on him,” the report said. “She advised that he drove extremely fast to get her to her residence. She stated that he parked a little bit away from the residence and allowed her to get out of the truck.”

The victim’s mother, who WLWT is not identifying, said her daughter did not immediately report what happened because she did not want to get into trouble.

“She feels victimized even though she’s pretty much put herself in this situation. She knew better than to meet somebody that she didn’t know who it was,” the mother said.
“She hasn’t really had any bad experiences with meeting people online. She thinks that bad stuff only happens to other people, not to her.”

Her daughter is now in counseling and has deleted Whisper from her phone. But because the site is anonymous, there is little to no information for police to use to locate the man responsible.

“When you’re meeting these people, you don’t get their name. You don’t get their address,” the mother said. “(She) didn’t get his license number, didn’t take a picture of his face. We have no way of finding out who this was.”

The victim’s mother recommends all parents closely monitor what is on their child’s smartphone and social media accounts.

“Get on there. See who they are talking to. If they’re meeting people online, you see who they are talking to. You check out their profile,” she said.

Wrongful Death Suspects in Shooting Death of Teen Plead Not Guilty

Four people arrested in connection to the shooting death of a Bardstown teenager were back in court this week.

Shelmontay Adams, Alexis Gribbins, Torique Griffin, and Damion Murphy all entered not guilty pleas. Police say that the suspects conspired to rob 17-year-old Cameron Williamson during a drug deal.

“There’s no sympathy in their eyes, there’s no remorse,” said Williamson’s mother, Crystal Bartley.

The four appeared separately, but the public defender representing them asked the judge to lower their bonds from $1 million, that request was denied.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

“They took my son’s life. I don’t feel no remorse either for theirs,” said Bartley.

Police say that Gribbins and Murphy picked up Williamson and drove to the parking lot of a Bardstown strip mall the morning of the incident. Officials say that Adams and Griffin were also there. Adams told police that he accidentally shot Williamson during a struggle.

The suspects are charged with complicity to murder and robbery.

They will be back in court on January 12 for a pre-trial. Their trial is scheduled for January 23.

Private Detective: FBI Offering $20K Reward For Info

The FBI has addressed the disappearance of former attorney Eric C. Conn in a roundtable with the media.

Conn, who pleaded guilty in March in connection with a social security disability scheme, was facing 12 years in prison.

Conn was at the center of an 18-count indictment alleging an intricate scheme to fraudulently obtain disability and health care benefits. He pleaded guilty to one count of stealing from the Social Security Administration and one count of bribing a judge.

The disability benefits of over 900 Eastern Kentucky residents represented by Conn were frozen pending a review by the Social Security Administration.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Conn had been previously accused of improper practice involving his law firm. In October 2013, he was the focus of a Senate investigation. The investigation alleged that Conn wrote medical reports and paid physicians to approve them without conducting a physical exam of the patients. Judge David B. Daugherty was also accused of approving Conn’s cases for Social Security disability payouts without scrutiny, while psychologist Dr. Bradley Adkins is accused of falsifying medical records to secure favorable rulings for Conn’s clients.

Last week, the FBI issued a warrant for Conn’s arrest. He had removed his ankle monitor and has since disappeared. The device was located discarded along I-75 Friday night. A press release from the FBI states that the device was in a backpack in the area of exit 115 in Lexington.

The FBI believes that Conn is still in the United States although former employees of the attorney testified that he threatened to flee to Cuba if he got in trouble.

The judge ruled that Conn was not a flight risk and released him on home incarceration.

The FBI is offering a $20K reward for information on Conn’s whereabouts.

Anyone with information is asked to call FBI Louisville at (502) 263-6000.
