Drug Dog Sweep 8 Lbs of Pot Found in Cleburne County, AL

A traffic stop for speeding in a construction zone led to the arrests of two men and the discovery of 8 pounds of marijuana in Cleburne County.

The stop happened about 4:45 p.m. Monday when a Heflin police officer spotted a Toyota Camry driving westbound Interstate 20. As the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed an overwhelming masking another odor come from inside the car.

http://liarcatchers.com/drugdogsweeps.html

He spoke to the driver, 33-year-old Reginald Gates, who admitted to the officer he was speeding, but told the officer he thought it was at a slower speed. Gates said he and his passenger, 34-year-old Jaquay Liggion of California, were heading to Anniston to see friends.

Liggion initially gave police a false name, authorities said. Once the officer checked both men through law enforcement databases, he called for backup. Police didn’t say what they found on the database search.

When the officer asked Gates for permission to search the car, Gates refused and suggested police bring in a drug-sniffing dog. They did just that.

The police dog, “Jedi” performed a free air sniff of the car, and hit on the left rear corner panel, the rear of the car and underneath the car, indicating the presence or trace of illegal drugs by “staring at the officer” and then lying down.

The officer carried out a probably cause search, finding a large white trash bag in the trunk that contained eight gallon-sized zip lock bags with a green leafy substance inside. They also found a semi-automatic pistol in a book bag next to the marijuana.

Both men are charged with trafficking marijuana. Their bond is set at $1 million each.

Private Detective: 15 Arrested in Drug Roundup in Wayne County, AL

Wayne County Sheriff Ric Wilson said the department has to initiate a drug roundup once a year, and this time more than a dozen people were arrested.

“It’s just the way it is in this day and age,” Wilson said. “It doesn’t matter what city, state or county, drugs are an issue, and we are doing our best to do all we can to be a deterrent to illegal drug activity in Wayne County.”

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The Sheriff’s Department teamed with Collinwood Police Department on the latest roundup, which resulted in 15 arrests.

“We have warrants for five more that we are looking for,” Wayne County Chief Deputy Gerald Baer said.

Wilson said all 15 face felony drug charges. He said the indictments were issued by a special Wayne County grand jury to hear cases developed in a yearlong drug investigation.

“We’ve got people selling meth, pills and marijuana,” Wilson said.

He said all of the people arrested sold drugs to undercover officers.

“Most of the ones we got for selling meth was making it for themselves,” Wilson said. “They were making it and selling just enough to support their own habit.”

The investigation was called “Operation Spring Forward.” Baer said although several of the cases were made throughout the county, many were in the south part of the county.

“Some of these cases are older than we like them to be, when we put an operation like this together. But it just takes time,” Baer said.

Those arrested included:

■ Alan Johnson, 35, 99 Johnson Lane, Lutts, Tennessee; possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

■ Alexandria Lewis, 26, 131 Charlie Lane, Waynesboro, Tennessee; two counts of sale of prescription narcotics.

■ Victoria Maghielse, 37, 225 Pine Ridge Road, Waynesboro; three counts of sales of prescription narcotics.

■ Steven Sturgeon, 58, 150 Simmons Branch Road, Waynesboro; sale of prescription narcotics.

■ Steven Massey, 46, 3082 Buffalo Road, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; four counts of sale of methamphetamine.

■ Betsy Vaughn, 30, 100 Dog St., Collinwood, Tennessee; sale of prescription narcotics in a school zone.

■ Greg Vaughn, 46, 100 Dog St., Collinwood, Tennessee; sale of marijuana and two counts of sale of prescription narcotics in a school zone.

■ Julie Norman, 24, 638 Hurricane Hills, Waynesboro, Tennessee; sale of prescription narcotics in a school zone and sale of prescription narcotics.

■ Jeff Gambrell, 41, 225 Pine Ridge Road, Waynesboro, Tennessee; two counts of sale of prescription drugs.

■ Matthew Snodgrass, 23, 230 Ohio St., Collinwood; two counts of sale of methamphetamine.

■ Adam Nutt, 33, 1317 Shawnette Road, Collinwood; two counts of sale of prescription narcotics.

■ Daken Maples, 24, 350 Kilburn Hollow Road, Waynesboro, Tennessee; sale of prescription narcotics.

■ Ryan Clay, 23, Waynesboro; sale of methamphetamine.

■ Chasity Pitts, 30, 917 Highway 99, Waynesboro, Tennessee; sale of methamphetamine.

■ Derek Jones, 38, 917 Highway 99, Waynesboro; sale of methamphetamine.

Wilson said deputies hope to have the five with outstanding warrants in custody soon.

He said he hopes the operation sends a message to the people in the county who sell, make and use drugs illegally.

“We’re going to continue to do all we can to get this problem under control, and these roundups are one way,” he said.

Drug Dog Sweep Two Charged With Manufacturing and Selling Meth in Cookeville, TN

A Cookeville woman and Monterey man were arrested on multiple drug charges last week after a police search found significant quantities of various drugs inside a car they were reportedly cleaning.

Britny Michale Thompson, of Sunflower Lane in Cookeville, and Jacob Benjamin Snyder, of Monterey Highway, were arrested in the incident.

Cookeville Police Officer Daniel Trivette said he was patrolling the area when he noticed the doors and trunk of a 1996 Toyota Camry all standing open in front of the Sunflower Lane address of Thompson.

“I observed Jacob Snyder leaned inside the trunk of the car with doors of the car open. I also observed [Britny] Thompson leaned inside the front passenger side of the vehicle moving things around,” says Officer Trivette’s report of the incident.

The officer approached the two, who gave him consent to speak with him and provided identifications with which the officer was able to run a warrants check.

http://liarcatchers.com/drugdogsweeps.html

While the officer spoke with the two, he said he noticed Thompson “moving things around” in the front passenger floor board of the car.

The officer asked Snyder what they were doing, and he said Snyder told him Thompson lived at the address and that the two of them were cleaning out the car he had just bought three days prior.

“I did notice that the inside of the vehicle looked fairly clean and that there were small plastic bags full of trash around the car,” Officer Trivette reports.

Both Snyder and Thompson informed the officer that they had prior drug charges and both reportedly admitted to him of using methamphetamine.

“Ms. Thompson told me that she had a pending promotion to manufacture methamphetamine charge in court,” Officer Trivette’s report says.

The officer said he asked the two multiple times if there were any illegal substances in the vehicle, “and each time they both started looking at the front passenger seat before answering that there was nothing illegal inside.”

The officer’s report says he asked Snyder to search the vehicle, but that Snyder kept evading the question, finally allowing permission but that he didn’t want the officer “to tear the car up.

“I asked him if he would be fine with a drug dog running around the car, and he said that would be fine,” Officer Trivette’s report continues.

Officer Heather Marshall arrived on the scene for backup and Thompson agreed to allow the female officer to search her person, and removed a recently used syringe from her person before the search began.

“I asked Ms. Thompson if she would allow me to search her purse due to the fact that she told me she was a drug user, had pending drug charges and had a used syringe concealed on her person,” Officer Trivette’s report says.

She consented to let the officer search her purse, according to the report.

At that time, Officer Dustin Hensley arrived on the scene with his K-9 narcotics partner, which allegedly alerted immediately to the presence of narcotics on the front passenger side of the vehicle “and jumped onto a safe sitting on the front floorboard of the vehicle.”

Upon the K-9 alert, the officers conducted a search of the vehicle.

Behind a panel on the front dash, officers discovered a baggy of white powder as well as various pills.

Multiple tools and items were discovered in the trunk of the car, including a Fortress safe and another safe back, according to the police report.

The Fortress safe was unlocked, and inside it officers discovered multiple syringes, various drug paraphernalia and multiple capsules containing a brown powder believed to be methamphetamine that field tested positive for the presence of ephedrine, as well as several baggies of white and brown powders that also field tested positive for methamphetamine. And one of those baggies, according to the officer’s report, contained several grams of the illegal substance.

Both the safe and the safe bag were both locked when the K-9 initially alerted upon them, but both Snyder and Thompson denied ownership of the locked compartments.

“I believed that both subjects had control over the safe, and they were trying to separate themselves from and abandoning ownership of the contents of the safe,” Officer Trivette writes in his report. The safe bag was easily opened, and inside it officers discovered more syringes, drug paraphernalia, and powder believed to be methamphetamine.

Due to the type and quantity of items found in the search of the vehicle, Officer Trivette reports, he believed the two were probably selling methamphetamine and that they had also started the process to initiate the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Both were charged with possession of a controlled substance for resale and initiation to manufacture methamphetamine.

Thompson’s booking information also indicates a Meth Free Tennessee drug act charge.

Snyder is being held on a $20,000 bond, while Thompson is being held on a $55,000 bond.

The initial court date for both is set for this coming Wednesday, and the initial court date for Thompson’s Meth Free Tennessee charge is set for July 16.

Fraud Investigation Craigslist Check Scam

A fraudulent Craigslist check scam has been popping up in Madison County.

A complainant reported that she responded to a Craigslist advertisement for a job opportunity in which she would be paid every week by a company to have an advertisement place on her vehicle. After contacting the person in reference to the ad, he told the victim that she would be sent a check in the amount of $2500 with the instruction to cash the check, keep $500 and then send the remaining $2000 to an address in Texas.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

The check was drawn on the Maryland Institute College of Art and immediately made the woman suspicious. She contacted police.

Richmond Police encourage people to exercise vigilance and remain skeptical of check cashing scams and say if you are in doubt, to contact law enforcement.

Missing Person Minnesota Sorority Sister Went Into River From Bridge

Police searching for a missing University of Minnesota student said they have found video showing the young woman going into the Mississippi River from a bridge.

Jennifer Houle, 22, was last seen Friday at a bar in the Dinkytown area of Minneapolis between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., the Minneapolis Police Department said.

The video shows her alone on the 10th Avenue Bridge on Friday morning and then going into the river, Minneapolis Police Department spokesman John Elder said.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has been asked to help the MPD with a water recovery effort, and no suspects are being sought, he said.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“We extend our deepest condolences to the Houle family and all of Jennifer’s many friends,” the MPD said in a statement. “The Minneapolis Police Department and the family of Jennifer Houle wish to thank the many people who provided support, assistance, and information since Jennifer’s disappearance. The Houle family has requested privacy at this difficult time.”

Friends said they thought Houle left the bar to walk home. Police said they found her purse and her phone in the middle of the street near her apartment building, just an hour and a half after she was last seen at the bar.

Houle is a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, and chapter posted on Facebook Saturday: “We need all the help we can get to find this warm-hearted, beautiful person.”

“She’s an amazing sister and friend to all of us,” said Madeline Eddy. “She’s very involved.”
