Missing Person Remains Found in Daniel Boone National Forest Could be Michigan Man

Investigators are still working to identify human remains found over the weekend in the Daniel Boone National Forest.

The Rowan County Coroner says he’s looking into the possibility the remains could be those of a missing man from Michigan whose car was found at a rest stop in the county nearly 10 years ago.

In 2005, Thomas Ray James, 54, had been missing for months when his vehicle was found abandoned at a Rowan County rest stop along the Interstate.

Fast forward to last Sunday when a hunter made a gruesome discovery about a mile from that very same rest stop. Police say a man hunting for mushrooms found a human skull and several clothing items in a wooded area.

As the remains are in the process of being identified, the Rowan County Coroner tells LEX 18 that he has been in contact with authorities in Michigan. While the Coroner doesn’t want to give the family false hope, he says the odds of this being Thomas Ray James is “at the top of their list of possibilities.”

Private Detective, Man Hit Teen on Moped and Fired Shots Into Home After Moped Stolen

Police are looking for the man they say hit two teens on a moped Thursday night because he believed the teens were riding his stolen moped.

One of the teen’s sister says that minutes after the man hit the boys on Russell Cave Road, he came by her home and fired multiple shots into the residence.

Brenda Garcia, who is 6 months pregnant, says she and her 4-year-old nephew were inside when shots were fired.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“I started hearing the shots, so I just kind of stood there and was like ‘oh my God, what is that?’ And they just kept coming, shot after shot after shot. And I just stood there and like the pieces of the wall were just going everywhere and some got on me and I started freaking out and that’s when I called police,” she said.

Garcia says the man had come to the house earlier and told her mother that her brother had stolen his moped. She says her mother offered to pay for it and make things right.

“He was just like ‘no, we will look for him’ and then that is when we started looking for him, too,” Garcia said.

But police say the man caught up with the teens first and ran into them with his SUV on Russell Cave near Loudon, and then ran off. Moments later, they say Presley Reed went by Garcia’s home and fired shots into it.

Garcia’s brother and the other teen are expected to be OK.

Reed is still on the loose. He was last seen driving a silver Dodge Durango. If you have any information on where he could be you are asked to contact Lexington Police

Cold Case More Info on River Missing Person Search

It’s been a cold case for eight years, however on Thursday new leads brought a new search for missing Kentucky man. Thomas Profitt.

With the help of Lexington Firefighters, Winchester Police looked in the Kentucky River on Thursday. Investigators spent hours searching for a vehicle in connection with the case. Detectives narrowed the area where they searched to around the Boonesboro Bridge, near Four Mile Road in Clark County.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“I hope they do find it, you know for the family members sake,” said Angel Boone. She and her family were at the River on Thursday.

The search for 45-year-old Thomas Profitt caught people at the Kentucky River off guard. The Clark County man went missing back in 2006. Years later, Winchester Police said they got a tip to check between the Boonsboro Bridge and the power plant, for a vehicle in connection with Profitt’s disappearance.

On Thursday, Lexington Firefighters helped detectives use sonar to scour the water. Winchester Police wouldn’t say exactly who or what led them to look in the river, however they said this search had been planned for months.

“You see it on TV, you know like Cold Justice or Cold Case Files or something like that. But, to be here in this area is kind of crazy,” said Boone.

Profitt was last seen leaving his home eight years ago in his 1997 Maroon Buick. Back then, his family and police begged for answers. People at the River said no matter what, Thursday’s search helped.

“Kind of brings new life into them, you know? I can’t imagine what they have been going through,” said Mike Jones, a fisherman at the river.

“Knowing that someone out there still cares enough to say, hey I am going to find out what happened to your loved one,” said Boone.

That determination fueled more than three hours of sonar searching on Thursday afternoon. While investigators said nothing was found in the water, the case will move forward.
