Cold Case Officials Search River in 2006 Missing Person Case

Officials were out on the Kentucky River in Clark County Thursday afternoon after new leads on a cold case from 2006.

Officials searched a portion of the river between Boonsboro Bridge and the power plant near Four Mile Road in connection to the missing person case of Thomas Profitt, who hasn’t been since or heard from since 2006.

The Lexington Fire Department’s sonar was used to search for a vehicle in the river, but the search turned up empty.

Officials said they had planned to come out to the scene months ago once it was warm and it hadn’t rained for a while, but did not say what led them to that specific area.

They were on scene for about four hours and finished without finding anything at around 3 p.m.

Private Detective, Two KY Fires Station Burn in a Week

For the second time this week, a Kentucky fire department station has burned.

Fire officials say the South Hopkins Fire Department building in Nortonville was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday. Crews from five departments took about an hour and half to get the fire under control. Officials say nobody was in the building when the fire broke out and there were no injuries.

Fire Chief Darwin Rideout said it’s too early to know what caused the fire. There were five trucks inside the building, and the chief said the loss could eclipse the $1 million mark.

Officials say volunteer fire departments from around the area will have to figure out how to pick up the slack and cover the South Hopkins district.

On Tuesday, Mount Eden Volunteer Fire Department burned in Spencer County.

Pedophile Tracking TSA Agent Faces Child Porn Charges

A Transportation Security Administration employee from Northern California is facing federal child pornography charges after an undercover sting allegedly caught him trying to use Craigslist to solicit a sexual rendezvous with a mother and her young daughter.

George Hristovski, a 54-year-old resident of Elverta north of Sacramento, who says on LinkedIn that he joined the TSA in 2008, was arrested Monday after FBI agents raided his home. He faces charges of attempted production of child pornography and attempted enticement of a minor.

According to court records, an undercover investigator with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department found an ad in Craigslist’s “Casual Encounters” section last month that sought a mother-daughter tandem for sex.

The undercover investigator began corresponding with the poster of the ad, while posing as a 30-year-old woman with a 13-year-old daughter, said a court affidavit written by FBI Special Agent Scott Schofield.

Dozens of messages

Over roughly three weeks, the investigator and the target – who went by the name “Greg” in e-mails – exchanged dozens of messages, initially through the anonymous e-mail service provided by Craigslist, but eventually with an e-mail address directly linked to Hristovski, Schofield alleged.

At one point in the investigation, Hristovski suspected something was amiss, the FBI said, and wrote, “I am trying to weed out cops, men pretending to be women and just want pics and stories.”

Hristovski allegedly sent pictures of himself to the agent, who sent pictures back of a Sheriff’s Department employee who agreed to pose as “Heather” – the mother – as part of the sting.

At Hristovski’s request, the FBI said, agents provided him with another e-mail address, this one supposedly belonging to the 13-year-old daughter, which he then used to solicit sexual information and photographs.

Based on the purported e-mail exchanges, investigators obtained warrants for records held by Craigslist and Yahoo. The records showed that the e-mail used in the exchanges belonged to Hristovski – and had been used to post sexual ads five times between July and October 2009, the FBI affidavit states.

The FBI said the Internet protocol address used to post the ads from 2009 was owned by the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the TSA, and that the picture on Hristovski’s LinkedIn profile is the same one sent in exchanges with the undercover agent.

When federal agents searched Hristovski’s home, Schofield said, Hristovski explained that if he had “actually received the photographs he would have contacted law enforcement to tell them what the 13-year-old’s mother had agreed to let her daughter do.”

He called it a fantasy

He denied any intent to engage in sexual acts with the young girl, claiming the e-mails were nothing more than a fantasy, the FBI said.

The TSA has suspended Hristovski indefinitely, and a spokesman said Wednesday the agency was in the process of firing him.

“TSA holds its employees to the highest ethical standards and expects all TSA employees to conduct themselves with integrity and professionalism,” said spokesman Ross Feinstein. “These alleged crimes are egregious and intolerable.”

Missing Person Body of Oregon Mom Found, Ruled Suicide

The death of an Oregon woman whose disappearance prompted a nearly two-week search in a rural community near Portland has been ruled a suicide, police said on Wednesday.

Jennifer Janelle Huston, a stay-at-home mother found dead on Tuesday in an isolated forested area 20 miles from her home in Dundee, died of asphyxiation “fairly close to the time she was reported missing,” the Newberg-Dundee Police Department said in a statement.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The box of sleeping pills that surveillance videos captured Huston buying shortly before she left home for the last time on July 24 was found empty at the scene.

“We don’t know what led Jennifer to this dark place and to this end and perhaps never will understand this,” Huston’s parents, Bill and Deborah Turner, said in a statement on Wednesday.

The mother of a 6-year-old and a toddler, Huston had complained of headaches for several days before she disappeared. Shortly after she vanished, her husband said he feared she had been in an accident near their rural community of Dundee, about 30 miles southwest of Portland.

Her vehicle was found Tuesday by a property owner, and it did not show signs of damage. Its fuel tank was still full, police said Wednesday.

In their statement, Huston’s parents thanked community members for helping with the search for their daughter and asked for privacy for themselves and other family members.

Wrongful Death Man Pleads Not Guilty in Fatal DUI That Killed Elizabethtown Teen

The man accused of a deadly DUI crash in Hardin County entered a not guilty plea in court Wednesday.

According to the News-Enterprise, Michael Hilton pleaded not guilty to murder and DUI in connection with a fatal crash in June that killed Elizabethtown teen Brianna Taylor.

Police say Hilton was driving when he hit a car driven by Brianna Taylor, killing her. Taylor’s passenger was taken to University of Louisville Hospital, along with Hilton and his twin brother, who was a passenger in his car.

Investigators say beer cans were found scattered around the wreckage.

The News-Enterprise reported in July that Hilton had also been indicted in connection with another case: a methamphetamine ring. His new charges include trafficking, criminal syndication and engaging in organized crime. In 2006, Hilton was sentenced to three years in prison for repeated DUI offenses.

Hilton will be back in court for the latest charges in September.

Brianna Taylor’s brother, David Brice Taylor, was in a medically induced coma following brain surgery, after he hit a deer and rolled his 4-wheeler just days after his sister died.

Several businesses in the community decided to donate a portion of their profits and collect donations to help with funeral expenses for the family who had both children involved in tragic accidents.

Community members also gathered at a church in support of Brice’s recovery.
