Wrongful Death Investigation in Jackson County

A murder investigation is underway in Jackson County after a man was found shot to death near his home off Highway 2004 near McKee.

Kentucky State Police tell LEX 18 that family members of Gary “Bill” Mullins reported that he hadn’t been seen since Thursday night and the 56 year old wasn’t answering his phone. When troopers arrived at the home, they began searching the property. A short time later they found Mullins’ body in a storage shed nearby with several gun shot wounds.

Identity Theft Cohasset, MA Woman is Victim

A 64-year-old Cohasset woman reported to police on Tuesday (Sept. 10) that she had been a victim of identity theft. The woman reported that she had received a notice from the IRS that she was due a refund of $6,380. However, the check never arrived. When she called the IRS to inquire, she was told the check had been cashed.

Complicating matters further, the woman had assumed the refund was for 2011 because at the time she received the notification letter, she had not yet filed her 2012 taxes. The IRS confirmed the check was for 2012, police said. Detectives are working with the IRS on the investigation.

Insurance Fraud Philadelphia, MS Man Charged

A Philadelphia, Miss., man has been charged with multiple counts of insurance fraud.

Attorney General Jim Hood says in a news release that 46-year-old Phillip Willis was indicted in Neshoba County on three counts of false pretense. Willis has been freed on bond.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

Hood says Willis is accused of defrauding four victims in three separate cases of more than $45,000 while doing business as owner/agent of Capital Risk Insurance Company in Philadelphia.

He says Willis allegedly took payments from the victims to cover insurance premiums but never pay the premiums. Hood says that resulted in the victims’ coverage being cancelled or their having to repay their premium in order to keep from being cancelled.

Wrongful Death Lexington Man Stabbed Weeks Before Wedding

The mother of a young Lexington man stabbed to death just weeks before his wedding says she doesn’t understand why charges haven’t been filed in the case.

Steven Campbell, 22, was killed Wednesday night during a fight along Mark Avenue. A release from the Fayette County Coroner’s Office said Campbell died from a “stab wound to the chest.”

Lexington Police have labeled this a death investigation. They said they recovered the knife used in the stabbing and they have questioned a suspect but no one has been charged.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

“I love him so much and I can’t believe that he’s gone,” Campbell’s mother, Theresa Parker told LEX 18.

“I don’t understand why all of this happened. I just want my son back and I know that’s never gonna happen,” Parker said through tears. “He was such a good kid. He would do anything for anybody. That’s why I can’t understand why somebody would take his life. I don’t understand.”

Campbell’s fiancee, Manda Bentley claimed she was there when the 22-year-old was stabbed. Bentley told LEX 18, “[Steven] was amazing. He was my best friend.”

“I want them to sit in jail until they rot and I will be at every court appearance there is,” Parker said. “You can’t just take my child’s life like that.”

Parker said her family is having a difficult time covering the cost of her son’s burial. Donations can be made to a fund set up at Woodforest Bank.

Campbell’s family has organized a vigil for his friends and family members. That will be 7 p.m. Friday in the field along Price Road near Suburban Mobile Home Park.
