Berea College officials issued a safety alert after reports that a female student was attacked and threatened on campus Monday night.
According to the Public Safety release, the student was returning to her dorm at Elizabeth Rogers residence hall around 11 p.m. Monday, when a man approached her at the back door of the building and took her across the parking lot to a dark area near a dumpster.

The man then produced a knife, which had a black handle, and threatened her with assault, according to the safety alert. He then ran from the area toward Chestnut Street without taking anything or harming the victim.
Officials say the woman told them the man spoke in a gruff or scratchy voice. He was described by her as a while man wearing black shoes, a black pullover sweatshirt and a ski-mask.
Officials say they have increased police presence in the are of the incident.
