Sheriff’s deputies in Laurel County arrested three people off Grecy’s Road Thursday morning in connection with a drug trafficking investigation.

A press release from Sheriff John Root states that deputies and the sheriff’s office’s new K-9 team located more than two pounds of crystal methamphetamine, $16,327 in cash, pills, marijuana, scales, trail cameras in use, three handguns, a homemade small caliber weapon, and one shotgun.

Michelle Savage, 43, of Somerset Road in London was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, first-degree, second offense, methamphetamine; possession of a handgun by convicted felon; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; trafficking in marijuana, 8 ounces to 5 pounds, first offense; and persistent felony offender I.

Kenny Jones, 54, of Reams Lane Apartments in London, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia; public intoxication, controlled substances; and promoting contraband, first-degree, deputies say he took two needles into jail.

A fourth person, 46-year-old Marvin Spencer, was arrested in the immediate area next door that was found to have an outstanding bench warrant for failing to appear in court.

Christopher Burkhart, 21, of London, and 19-year-old Brandon Isom, of Wise Owl Road in London arrived at the residence while deputies were there. Deputies say they were charged on a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court on charges of trafficking in a controlled substance, third degree, first offense.

All six were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

A man arrested in Swedesboro last week on insurance fraud charges in Arizona forged his insurance license and diverted more than $450,000 in payments from customers for his personal use, according to Arizona authorities.

McFarland was charged with 92 criminal counts involving fraud schemes, identity theft and theft.

He had been living in Swedesboro since 2015 and is originally from Salem County, a spokesman for the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office said.

The fraud began in 2005, according to the Arizona Department of Insurance, when McFarland allegedly forged his name on the Arizona insurance producer license of another agent with the same last name.

He worked under that phony license for Legends Environmental Insurance Services, LLC, investigators allege.

When that company merged with Insurance Office of America, Inc. in 2013, the new company checked backgrounds on all Legends employees.

They determined that McFarland’s license was forged and contacted state insurance fraud investigators, authorities said.

In 2014, the Arizona Department of Insurance Fraud Unit obtained search warrants for McFarland’s place of business and residence in Phoenix and Flagstaff, Arizona.

The investigation revealed that he allegedly set up fraudulent bank accounts under the Legends name without the company’s knowledge and diverted more than $450,000 in premium payments from 87 different commercial environmental companies located throughout the country.

No actual insurance policies were issued for the premiums paid by these companies, investigators said.

During the probe, McFarland moved out of Arizona and back to New Jersey.

On Sept. 12, he was charged with 92 criminal counts and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

McFarland waived an extradition hearing and agreed to return to Arizona. He remains in Salem County Correctional Facility pending his transfer.

A church treasurer has been arrested after investigators say she stole more than $50,000.

Dorothy Colleen Barth, 59, was the treasurer of Trinity United Methodist Church. Investigators say she unlawfully took the money between September 2015 and June 2016.

Barth was charged with theft by unlawful taking over $10,000.

She was lodged in the Mason County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.

A Lexington man is recovering from his injuries after police say he was injured during a robbery.

The incident occurred at 2 a.m. at Coolavin Park. Police tell LEX 18 that the man was walking alone when he was approached by a suspect who punched him and then pulled a knife out and cut him.

The robber took an unknown amount of cash and fled the scene.

The victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be okay.

Police don’t have much of a robber description but they encourage the public to be vigilant while out walking.

It’s been nearly a month since the murder of Desiree Sparks, a 22-year-old woman who was found dead in Lincoln County.

Sparks’ body was found in the woods by a group of ATV riders. She was last seen leaving the area of Citation Drive in Danville and had allegedly been seen in the company of a male driving a dark-colored SUV.

Police are still searching for answers as to what happened to Sparks. Following Sparks’ death, Kentucky State Police Post 7, which is overseeing the investigation,   requested help from the public to track down video surveillance in areas across Boyle and Lincoln County.

Trooper Robert Purdy told the Advocate-Messenger that police are still actively seeking information in the case.

“There haven’t been any arrests or anything,” Purdy told the newspaper. “We’re still looking for leads.”

A woman whose body was found in the Boise Foothills in February died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head, according to the Ada County Coroner’s Office.

Ronie Parrott had been missing since August 2015 when her remains were found Feb. 13, about a mile past the U.S. Bureau of Land Management gate along Sunset Peak Road. Police were unable to determine the cause of her death at that time.

The coroner’s office ruled the death a homicide.

Its report did not specify a date of death, rather giving a range of possible days: Aug. 25, 2015, to Feb. 13, when the body was found. “We know her remains were (in the Foothills) longer than a couple of days,” said Patrick Orr, a spokesman for the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say they have “a strong working theory” about who may have killed Parrott, though no warrants have been issued in the case.

Parrott’s mother, Jennifer Jones, said she’s grateful for the detectives who have “diligently worked on the case for over a year.” She said she hopes evidence from the case is sufficient enough to file charges against whoever is accountable.

“Now all we have to do is know who did it,” she said. “She didn’t deserve this.”

United States Attorneys Kerry B. Harvey and John E. Federal law protects against such crimes as intimidating or bribing voters, buying and selling votes, impersonating voters, altering vote tallies, stuffing ballot boxes, and marking ballots for voters against their wishes or without their input.  It also contains special protections for the rights of voters and provides that they can vote free from acts that intimidate or harass them.  For example, actions of persons designed to interrupt or intimidate voters at polling places by questioning or challenging them, or by photographing or videotaping them, under the pretext that these are actions to uncover illegal voting may violate federal voting rights law.  Further, federal law protects the right of voters to mark their own ballot or to be assisted by a person of their choice.

Lexington Police are investigating a theft from Tates Creek Elementary’s PTA Booster Club.

According to investigators, the complaint reported approximately $8020 was taken from the school booster club by a known suspect.

No charges have been filed. The 16th District PTA president, David Kidd, released a statement to the media.

While performing their routine annual financial review, the leaders of the Tates Creek Elementary PTA  raised concerns about possible irregularities to the District PTA, State PTA and Fayette County Public Schools Department of Law Enforcement.  The State PTA conducted a financial review and submitted their preliminary findings to the Tates Creek Elementary PTA, the District PTA and FCPS Department of Law Enforcement. The matter is now in the hands of the Lexington Police Department. At all levels, the PTA takes these types of investigations very seriously and will take all appropriate legal steps.  The PTA considers its financial stewardship responsibility to our students and families as one of our top priorities, and we will continue to work with the Police in any capacity necessary throughout this process,” reads the statement.

Police say that a Louisville woman’s car was stolen outside of a store on Wednesday, and her young grandson was in the back seat.

Police say they received the call around 9:00 a.m. WAVE-TV reports that the woman’s car had been running outside of the Dixie Food Mart in Shively when it was stolen.

The thieves apparently noticed the toddler in the car and that is when they stopped, left the toddler, and took off, according to police.

An 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old male were caught by police in connection with the crime just minutes after police received the call.

The three-year-old in the car spoke to Shively Police about what happened to him.

“His statement was something along the line of, ‘he was driving Grammy’s car’.  And, the child even asked him, ‘what are you doing?’” Sgt. Josh Myers with the Shively Police Department told WAVE-TV. “This obviously, a stolen car is bad enough, but when there’s a child in the car, it adds a layer to it.”

The two subjects caught by police are facing charges of complicity to commit theft, fleeing, and wanton endangerment.

Police say it is not likely that the grandmother will face charges.

KSP investigators charged Danny Sexton, 35, with one count of Distribution of Obscene Matter to a Minor and one count of Prohibited Use of Electronic Means to Procure a minor 1^st.

He was lodged in the Powell County Detention Center.
