A 41-year-old Fort Walton Beach man was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years in prison after being convicted of charges stemming from a sex sting where he offered to engage in sexual activity with a 12-year-old girl.

Timothy Carlos Coffey was convicted by a jury of using a computer to facilitate or solicit a parent, legal guardian or custodian to consent to the sexual conduct of a child, unlawful use of a two-way communication device to facilitate the commission of a felony, traveling to meet a minor to engage in sexual conduct with consent by a parent, legal guardian or custodian and attempted lewd or lascivious battery with a victim 12 to 16 years of age on Feb. 12.

Judge Kelvin Wells also ordered Tuesday that Coffey was designated as a sexual offender and is required to register as such for the rest of his life.

Coffey answered an ad on Craigslist in which an undercover officer was posing as the mother of a 12-year-old looking for someone to engage in sexual activity with her daughter, according to a media release from the State Attorney’s Office.

Coffey offered to come to their home to have sex with the child. He then went to a location he believed to be near the home to meet the “mother,” where he was arrested by Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the release said.

Coffey was dishonorably discharged from the Air Force after 19 years of service as a result of the acts, according to the release.

The sting was part of a November 2013 operation dubbed “Operation Turkey Hunt,” which caught a total of 10 men, five of them local.

The other four local men were sentenced previously.

Mohommed Alhamdy, Fort Walton Beach, was found guilty and sentenced to 38 months in prison.

Melvin Andrews, Fort Walton Beach, was found guilty and placed on probation for five years.

Nick Walker, Freeport, was found guilty and sentenced to 38 months in prison.

William Moodie, Sandestin, was found guilty and sentenced to 36 months in prison.

Lexington Police have arrested a man in connection with several robberies in Lexington, including one in which the clerk turned the tables by grabbing the mans gun.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Darnell Thomas, Jr. for a robbery of the Tobacco Zone. It was there that the clerk grabbed a gun left on the counter and was able to pull the mask off and identify one of the suspects.

Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for sex crimes against a child.

Alejo Ruiz Mendoza, 30, of Leland is charged with first degree sex offense with a child and indecent liberties with a child. According to the arrest warrant, Mendoza committed the crimes with a child under the age of 13.

Mendoza was arrested yesterday evening at the Brunswick County Detention Facility where he was being held for a separate incident. According to that arrest warrant, he was booked in late February on charges of assault on a female and interfering with emergency communication. The warrant says Mendoza hit a woman on the face, chest and biting her on the wrist.

Mendoza remains in the Brunswick County Detention Facility under at $205,000 bond.

Christopher Richard Cloonan was already registered as a sex offender after a 1991 conviction for attempted sexual battery on a 6-year-old in Charlotte County.

Cloonan sent photos of himself engaged in sexual activity with an infant on March 11, 2014, to undercover federal agents in an Internet chat room frequented by people with a sexual interest in children. Authorities tracked down his address within hours and arrested him the next day.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office released some of the online communications between the undercover agents and Cloonan. He said it would be awesome to share with like-minded men but warned that “Society is coming down so hard on ‘child molesters’ etc. now, we are in danger everyday as lovers of children are not seen as different from those who hurt and kill them.”

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office issued an endangered missing person alert Monday night for 41-year-old Miguel Ruiz, from the South Valley.

Ruiz is described as 5’6″ and 210 pounds, and BCSO says he was last seen wearing brown sweatpants, a black jacket and Nike shoes.

He was last seen around 5:30 p.m. Monday in an older-model, dark SUV.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirms that one of the two teens in an Amber Alert case has been located following a high-speed chase in Detroit.

16-year-old Araron Blackwell was located on Monday evening, his sister 13-year-old Emma Blackwell was still missing. Police say their main focus is locating her safely.

Emma Blackwell is 5 feet 5 inches, 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was wearing pink and white pajamas.

A person of interest was taken into custody in connection to the kidnapping of Aaron Blackwell and Emma Blackwell. The person of interest was taken into custody in Michigan, police said.  IMPD could not confirm if anyone else was in police custody.

According to Michigan State Police, the teens may have been driven to the Detroit area sometime Monday.

Police say the two children were abducted at gunpoint from their home at 1215 LaSalle St. at 3 a.m. Monday. Their mother called 911 saying that three men had kidnapped her son and daughter.

Witnesses were not able to give police a clear description of the getaway vehicle, but police say those vehicles may have included a black Escalade and a black Dodge Charger.

Neighbors are praying that Emma Blackwell will make it home safe and sound.

“My niece was very good friends with her. They played around in the neighborhood and went to school together,” said Latasha Garrinson, neighbor. “She’s kind of upset that her friend is missing so we’re all just hoping and praying that they come home safely.”

Other neighbors expressed hurt after learning that Aaron and his sister Emma were kidnapped at gunpoint while in their own home.

“Terrible, it’s a dangerous neighborhood, you think you would be safe in your own home,” said neighbor Harold Calviet.

“I just want my babies back,” said Issacc Pernell.

Police said the suspect who took the children was an African American male who goes by the name of  Jay and is 5 feet 11 inches, 250 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes.

A spokesperson for IMPD says they’re planning to release more information surrounding the circumstances of the high speed chase in Detroit and the recovery of Aaron Blackwell on Tuesday.
