Wrongful Death Pastor Denied Bail in Triple Murder

A Pulaski County pastor accused of killing three people back in September in Boyle County was denied bail in a hearing Monday morning.

Kenneth “Allen” Keith has been locked up since October 9, when he was charged with three counts of murder in connection with the shooting deaths of Mike and Angela Hockensmith and their client, Daniel Smith. The shootings happened the morning of September 20, inside the Hockensmith couple’s Danville store, “ABC Gold, Games, & More.” Their two young children were there at the time.

During Monday’s hearing, it was revealed that Keith allegedly used a .22 caliber pistol and larger caliber pistol in murder.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The defense asked if the boy who called 911 after the shootings, the son of the Hockensmiths, saw one or possibly all of the killings, a detective said yes. The detective was also asked whether or not Keith has the means to flee, and the detective said he is not sure if Keith has a passport, but also said Keith does not have a prior record.

According to staff at the Pulaski County Detention Center, when the pastor arrived at the jail on the October 9, he had just been treated at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. The staff said they had been told he cut his neck, possibly with a can, while being questioned by police.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office was not involved, but Sheriff told LEX 18 that he saw Keith at the hospital that night with a gash on his neck from what appeared to be a “suicide attempt.”

While Danville Police are handling the triple murder investigation, Chief Tony Gray said he believed the situation happened at the Somerset Police Department. He left it up to Somerset Police to comment on other details, including how this could have happened. Somerset Police have not commented.

“Why would a person not guilty do something like that? It just shows he must be guilty, I believe,” Mike Hockensmith’s father, Duke Lewis told LEX 18 Wednesday over the phone. “I’m not the judge. He’ll be judged when he does pass away and, if this is true about him, he needs to find God.”

Attorney Mark Stanziano represents Keith. He claimed he was not aware of any suicide attempt involving his client.

Keith has been indicted on three counts of murder, one count of robbery, and one count of burglary. He entered a not guilty plea to the charges.

Private Detective Springfield, MO Assaulted Officer on Bath Salts

Police say a Springfield man told them he was on a synthetic drug known as “bath salts” when he “slammed” a metal bed frame down on a police dog.

According to a probable cause statement, police were called to a home on South Missouri Avenue on Nov. 25 to respond to a man who had been “screaming, breaking windows out of the residence, and throwing objects.”

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

When they arrived, police found Ervin Antwaun Allen, 34, in the kitchen “yelling and throwing any item he could get his hands on.”

Police reported seeing Allen throwing punches but did not see anyone else in the home.

Officers said they attempted to talk to Allen, who said “he did not like the police.”

The statement says Allen’s behavior then escalated and he began making “threats of violence” toward an officer.

Police say Allen threw a chair, mop and bucket at officers before he retreated to a bedroom.

According to the statement, a police dog “tried to engage Allen on the leg,” so Allen “grabbed a metal bed frame and slammed it down onto (the dog).”

The statement says Allen then threw the frame at an officer, hitting him in the hand. Allen then tried to hit the officer when the dog “took hold of Allen’s arm.”

The officer reported that the dog was limping after the incident and he was unsure of the specific injuries.

Prosecutors say the officer came away with bumps and bruises.

According to a bond recommendation filed by prosecutors, Allen told police he had used bath salts, a synthetic drug similar to cocaine or methamphetamine, prior to the arrest.

Allen was on probation at the time for assault on a law enforcement officer and unlawful use of a weapon.

He was charged Wednesday with felony assault on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor assault on a law enforcement animal, but he was not in custody at the time.

A judge has issued a warrant for Allen’s arrest, according to court records.

Wrongful Death Lexington Mother Defends Man Accused of Killing Son

A Lexington mother says her newborn baby’s accused killer was forced to confess to the crime.

Caz Hazuga was charged Friday with the murder of his one-month-old son. The boy, Caz Hazuga Jr. died Thanksgiving morning following what police said was abuse at the family’s home on Henton Road.

According to a police report, Hazuga “admitted to intentionally causing the death of his one-month-old” son by striking his head on the kitchen counter.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

“Not even a day after your son’s death, and you’re sitting there being called a monster, saying, ‘You’re a murderer. You’re a murderer.’ And then you threaten to put a man’s wife in jail. He’s gonna confess to something. He’s gonna say what they want to hear,” the child’s mother, Angelina Rushing told LEX 18. “The only confession they got was him saying, ‘If that’s what you think happened, then that’s what you think happened. That’s what happened.’ That’s not a confession.”

Rushing said she was in the home when the incident occurred.

“I woke up to my husband telling me to look, he’s not breathing. So I took him and started giving him CPR. My brother-in-law called 911,” Rushing said.

The boy was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.

Hazuga was taken in for questioning. Rushing said she went with Hazuga and was in the next room while police conducted their interrogation.

“I listened in on what they were saying to him. All I kept hearing was them repeating, ‘Was it an accident? Was it an accident?’ And my husband saying, ‘No I just put him on my lap and swaddled him,'” Rushing said.

The couple also has a one-year-old daughter who they said was examined after the incident and determined to be in good health.

Hazuga is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Missing person Kevin Casserly of Anoka, Minnesota

Authorities are searching for a 22-year-old Anoka man who was last seen more than two weeks ago and who is believed to be dead.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension issued a missing-person alert early Saturday for Kevin Casserly. He was last heard from Nov. 11, said Casserly’s sister, Alexandra.

On Saturday, search parties of up to 120 people scoured parks and wooded areas in the Anoka area, as well as the Coon Rapids Dam, the Anoka County Fairgrounds, Greenhaven Golf Course in Anoka and along the Mississippi and Rum rivers.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“It’s not a search to look for evidence,” Alexandra Casserly, 25, said. “They are looking for Kevin; it’s a body search.”

The BCA said Kevin Casserly’s car was found in Anoka, which his sister said was at a location not far from his apartment.

She said police told her the keys were not in the car.

Casserly called his mom Nov. 11 saying he had the flu and had called in sick to work. He was last seen the following morning at 7:30 a.m., although his sister said detectives didn’t give her any further details about who he was with or who saw him.

Casserly has multiple convictions, including four felonies, according to the BCA. His sister said he previously used methamphetamine but “he has been staying on the clear and narrow.”

On Nov. 12, Casserly’s mother went to his apartment, where he lives alone, to check on him, Alexandra Casserly said. His mom found his apartment door slightly open and all of his belongings intact, including his cellphone and wallet. A $20 bill was on the kitchen table.

“He left his paycheck at work and things he could pawn at home,” his sister said. “A lot of things don’t make sense.”

She said Casserly doesn’t own any weapons and “nothing right now has led us to believe he’s having a relapse.”

Casserly works as a materials handler and trainer at Lakeland Tool & Engineering in Anoka. He was excited about recently being promoted, his sister said.

“It’s kind of a tough time,” said Casserly’s grandmother, Esther Chrzanak.

Casserly has a 6-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter who live with Chrzanak.

“They don’t know anything about (his disappearance),” she said.

The children’s 24-year-old mother is a recovering addict, Alexandra Casserly said, and is not as involved in their life as their father is.

She said Kevin Casserly didn’t want his children to fall prone to his past habits, so he took them to dance and karate lessons three times a week.

“To just disappear like this … he wouldn’t do it,” she said. “He wouldn’t disappear without checking in on his kids.”

Another search party is being organized for Sunday. Searchers will walk along East River Road and along the Mississippi, as well as north into the Fridley and Blaine areas, Alexandra Casserly said. Details will be posted on the “Help Find Kevin Casserly” Facebook page.

Casserly is Caucasian, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighs 140 to 160 pounds and has a chipped front tooth. He often wears a baseball hat with a silver chain.

The BCA is working with Anoka police to find Casserly. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police at 763-427-1212.

Wrongful Death Woman’s Body Found in Alley in Louisville

The woman found dead by sanitation workers early Saturday in a western Louisville alley has been identified as Andrie Arnold, 26.

Arnold died from multiple gunshot wounds, said R.D. Jones, deputy coroner with the Jefferson County Coroner’s office.

Jones was not able to release any additional information Saturday.

Arnold was found in an alley behind 2311 W. Gaulbert Ave. around 8:30 a.m.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Louisville Metro Police are investigating her death as a homicide, said Alicia Smiley, a police spokeswoman.

No arrests had been made and there were no suspects, Smiley said Saturday afternoon.

The sanitation workers told The Courier-Journal they were halfway through their route when they noticed a woman lying in the alley. Thinking she was asleep, they tried to wake her up until they realized she was deceased and called police.

Several neighbors told The Courier-Journal they didn’t hear anything suspicious Friday night or early Saturday.

“I just hate it for the family of the young woman,” said Shirley Smith, who walked over to the crime scene after seeing police cars drive by her home on South 22nd Street. “That’s someone’s daughter. And it’s right before Christmas. It’s just terrible.”

Police are asking anyone with information to call the anonymous tip line at (502) 574-LMPD.

Wrongful Death 3 People Shot in Rye, CO, Manhunt for Suspect

A nationwide dragnet is underway for a man suspected of fatally shooting three people while they were sleeping in their Rye-area home and then burning the structure down Wednesday.

The victims are identified as Reginald Burton Tuttle, 51, his wife, Kim Tuttle, 55, and Dawn Roderick, 33. All three were shot to death, according to Pueblo County Coroner James Kramer.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Harry Carl Mapps, 59, who had been living with the Tuttles until he was ordered to leave about a week ago. He is being called the “primary suspect” in the murders.

Mapps cashed two checks bearing the name of one of the victims on Wednesday, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

An undated photo of Harry Maps was released Friday, Nov. 29, 2013. (Provided by Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office)

The checks, for $4,000 each, were cashed Wednesday morning. The first was cashed at 8:20 a.m. in Pueblo and the second at 10:04 a.m. in La Junta, said Pueblo police spokeswoman Lisa Shorter. An image of Mapps, with a full beard, was taken by a surveillance camera at a gas station.

A nationwide warrant seeks his arrest for identity theft, forgery and theft of more than $5,000.

The bodies were found Thursday in the home, in the 8200 block of Colorado 165, just outside of Rye.

Mapps was a radio dispatcher for Reginald Tuttle Express, a trucking company.

Mapps’ estranged wife, Sandy Martin, 52, said he moved from their home in Dimmit, Texas, to Rye about six months ago to live and work with his longtime friends, the Tuttles.

She said Mapps has suffered a series of setbacks relating to an ongoing drinking problem. He lost his job driving a milk tanker in 2009 after he was arrested for drunken driving in Madison, Wis.

Martin said police in Dimmit have been keeping an eye out for Mapps in case he returned there. She said he is not a violent man, and she does not believe he killed his friends of 20 years.

But a week ago, the Tuttles asked Mapps to leave their home, Pueblo County sheriff’s investigators have said.

Martin said she believes Mapps was living out of his dark-blue minivan over the past week.
