Wrongful Death Pulaski Murder Suspect Has Violent Criminal Past

A man accused of killing his girlfriend in front of her children in Pulaski County has a violent criminal history.

Police charged Johnny Ray Hendrix, 35, with murder after finding Monica Wells in a sinkhole in a wooded area near their Pennington Road home. According to court documents, her 8 and 15-year-old boys watched Hendrix slam their mother’s head into a wall.

According to his criminal history, a grand jury indicted Hendrix on an assault charge in 2000. According to the indictment, Hendrix shot and seriously wounded a man. Court documents indicate he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

Wells’ mother, Brenda Helton, said she doesn’t think Hendrix should ever get out of jail this time.

“I hope he rots in jail. Maybe that’s awful, but that’s the way I feel. I don’t want him ever out. How he could do that to somebody else…”

Police say they questioned Hendrix’s brother, Freddy Pennington. He was named as a person of interest because he possibly witnessed the murder. Police have not filed any charges against Pennington at this time.

Hendrix is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Identity Theft Georgetown Lawyer Arrested

An attorney in Scott County is the one who may need a lawyer. Georgetown Police said Rhonda Cooper was arrested for six counts of identity theft. However, one of her clients told LEX 18 News that Cooper is innocent.

“If you hire somebody to work a case for you, then they end up stealing your identity, then yeah that’s a big deal. it’s a problem,” said Cpt. Robert Swanigan with the Georgetown Police Department.

It’s a problem a Scott County woman may have faced after investigators said she started getting calls from bill collectors. Officers said the collectors wanted around $4,000 dollars for charges from six different credit cards she never had. They are credit cards that police said Rhonda Cooper opened and used. A conclusion investigators said they came to after months of investigation.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

“One was a hotel, there were some purchases of some concert tickets, gas at different locations. And this culminated with us charging her yesterday (Wednesday) with the six counts of theft of identity,” said Swanigan.

Investigators said Cooper was arrested on Main Street in Georgetown at her law office. People in the building said she practices under the name “Melton.” After the arrest, officials said Cooper later bonded out of the Scott County Detention Center.

On Thursday LEX 18 News went to the office on Main Street for her side of the story, and over the phone she later said that she did not want to comment.

However, one of her clients did want to talk. “There is no truth to it,” said Richard Maggard. He owns Here’s Your Sign and works nearby. As a client himself, he said he is confident that this is all a misunderstanding.

“I believe that there is a miss-communication somewhere … Because that’s not what type of person she is,” said Maggard.

He said Cooper is an honest lawyer, and that the truth of her innocence will come out.

Whatever the outcome of the case, police said this victim’s credit will likely take a hit, and the public will probably pay the price.

“In the end the consumers, you and I and everybody else, ends up paying for it,” said Swanigan.

Georgetown police said Rhonda Cooper also represents write-in Mayoral candidate, Steve Price. Investigators said Price was arrested on Wednesday for charges allegedly that he hit another lawyer in the arm.

Wrongful Death Teen Sentenced to 12 Years in Baby Sister’s Death

A Madison County teen was sentenced to 12 years behind bars after admitting she killed her 9-month-old baby sister last year.

Jessica Marcum said she did not mean to hurt her sister and ultimately took a plea deal for manslaughter.

Marcum was only 17 last summer when she was set to stand trial as an adult for killing her sister, Bella Rose. Instead, she took a plea deal to avoid capital punishment and told the court what happened.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Marcum said she was watching her 9-month-old sister and put a pillow over head to stop her from crying, only she ended up suffocating Bella Rose.

The judge took the Commonwealth’s recommendation of a 12-year sentence.

Marcum’s family and attorneys did not wish to make a statement, but when asked if she still supports and loves her daughter, Marcum’s mother said: “How do I choose? She’s still my daughter.”

Fraud Investigation BBB Warns Scott County Residents of Storm Repair Scam

A new scam is popping up in Scott County preying on victims from last week’s storms.

The Better Business Bureau called a meeting Thursday morning with the City of Georgetown and local law enforcement reminding residents to be vigilant.

Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton says a local resident opened his door to two seemingly legal businessmen offering to repair his roof, when they stole his wallet instead. And he’s not the only victim of these kind of scams.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

“If anyone wants the entire amount of money up front, if you’re paying cash, if they don’t want to show you worker’s comp and liability insurance, if they’re vague about where they’re from and how long they’ve been in business, these are all red flags,” said Heather Clary.

If you don’t feel right about someone in particular, contact the BBB or the sheriff’s office for additional information.
