A man wanted by Lexington police for his role in multiple robberies has been taken into custody.

Police say that Deverious Jones,22, was wanted in connection with two Lexington Hibbett Sports robberies and a home invasion.

Police tell LEX 18 that Jones and 23-year-old Tahjee Winters and a third man held up a family in their home in the Masterson Station neighborhood on September 7. Police say they then stole a car, money, and marijuana.?

The home invasion came as a surprise to people in the neighborhood.

“This is a pretty safe neighborhood,” said Kari Rios. “We’ve really enjoyed living here.”

Police say that after the home invasion, police say that Jones and another man, both armed with guns, robbed the Hibbett Sports off of Winchester Road.

Jones was taken into custody Thursday.

Police are still looking for Winters in connection with these robberies.

Private Detective: Auto Parts Industry Executives Indicted of Obstruction of Justice

A federal grand jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan returned an indictment charging one current automotive parts industry executive and one former automotive parts industry executive with conspiring to obstruct a federal investigation.  The current executive also was charged with attempted obstruction of justice, the Justice Department announced today.

The indictment, filed today in Detroit, charges Futoshi Higashida and Mikio Katsumaru with conspiring to obstruct a federal investigation.  Higashida is also charged with attempted obstruction of justice.  During the charged conspiracy, Katsumaru was employed by an automotive parts company in Japan, and Higashida worked there and in Novi, Michigan, as president of that company’s U.S. joint venture with another company.

According to the indictment, the defendants, along with their co-conspirators, conspired from at least as early as June 2008 until at least September 2012 to delete emails and electronic records and to destroy documents referring to communications with competitors.  In addition, according to the indictment, Higashida instructed another individual on or about September 25, 2012, to ensure that no phone numbers or call records remained on his cellular telephone and that no data remained on his computer that would reflect competitor communications.  The charges contained in the indictment are allegations and not evidence of guilt.  The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

“Individuals will not escape prosecution by covering up or destroying evidence of their own or their company’s wrong-doing,” said Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brent Snyder of the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division.  “Obstructing a federal antitrust investigation – criminal or civil – is a serious criminal violation that the Antitrust Division will vigorously pursue.”

“Federal investigations are serious matters, and we will pursue any individuals who are involved in destroying evidence to keep it from the FBI,” said Howard S. Marshall, Special Agent in Charge of the Louisville office of the FBI.  “The FBI is committed to aggressively investigating companies and individuals who engage in criminal conduct that corrupts the global marketplace.  We will continue our work with the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division to uncover schemes aimed at creating an unfair competitive advantage by way of price fixing, bid rigging or other illegal means.”

A total of 65 individuals and 46 companies have been charged in the Antitrust Division’s investigations into the automotive parts industry.  This indictment was brought by the Antitrust Division’s Chicago Office and the FBI’s Louisville Field Office, Covington Resident Agency, with the assistance of the FBI’s International Corruption Unit and the U.S. Attorney’s Offices for the Eastern District of Michigan and the Eastern District of Kentucky.  Anyone with information about anticompetitive conduct in the automotive parts industry should contact the Antitrust Division’s Citizen Complaint Center at 888-647-3258, visit www.justice.gov/atr/contact/newcase.html or contact the FBI’s Louisville Field Office at 502-263-6000.

Private Detective: Stolen Porsche Found 2 Miles From Home

A tipster discovered an expensive car, thought to be long gone, two miles from where it disappeared.

It’s not unusual for cars to be stolen in Lexington, but Benson Miller couldn’t believe his eyes when he walked out the door Friday morning and his 2014 Porsche Panamera was gone.

It happened off Galaxie Drive around 4 a.m. Friday morning. Miller opened his door and a few words came out of his mouth. Those words, unfortunately, would result in an FCC fine for LEX 18, so we can’t print them or air them.

Miller explained to LEX 18 how a simple mistake landed his pricey car in the hands of someone else.

Last Thursday night, he was planning on taking a trip to a Porsche Driving Track in Indianapolis. He had his car checked out before he took it on the road.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“I remember pitching the paperwork and key on my seat when I picked the car up from the dealer.”

He went in to pack but decided he would leave in the morning instead of that night but he forgot one major thing, When Miller woke up, the shiny 2014 Panamera was nowhere to be found. He’d accidentally left his key fob in the car with his doors unlocked. Neighbors later caught the car on their surveillance cameras leaving the neighborhood but they couldn’t identify the driver.

Although Miller though the car was long gone, it was located Wednesday night at Lansdowne Apartments not far off Malabu Drive. A tipster, who recognized the vehicle from the story LEX 18 ran, notified the authorities.

Police haven’t said if there was damage to the car but they do say the owner was notified.

He hopes others will learn from his mistake.

“One, don’t be careless don’t leave your keys in your car unlocked at night, I mean that’s pretty obvious,” Benson Miller tells LEX 18.

Private Detective: Barbourville Police Put Out Warning After Clown Complaints

The Barbourville Police Department has put out a warning after several complaints about clowns.

They warn the public that dressing as a clown and driving, walking, or standing in public can create a dangerous situation for yourself and others.

In the Facebook post, they ask the public to please refrain from the unnecessary activity of dressing like a clown and hanging out in public.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Dressing up is not against the law, but doing so in public and creating a sense of alarm is illegal, and it is just plain creepy.

They also warn that threatening people is also illegal and you can be arrested for it.

The Facebook post, which can be read in full below, also says that assaulting, shooting, attacking, or injuring someone simply because they are wearing a costume can also lead to criminal charges.

Private Detective: Virtual Kidnapping Scam Hits Jessamine Co.

A man said that he got a disturbing phone call where someone demanded money in exchange for the safe return of his daughter.

It is a new phone scam that terrified one Jessamine County father.

Police call this scam a virtual kidnapping.

On the phone, he heard a little girl screaming in the background as a man with a Hispanic accent demanded money.

Shawn Mickschl said that for 30 seconds, he was convinced his daughter had been kidnapped.

He said that sort of call hits you in the deepest parts of who you are.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The caller couldn’t answer a personal question about the little girl though, so Mickschl hung up, raced to his daughter’s school and found her safe.

Once he realized it was a scam, he knew he had to spread the word.

“We live in such a culture of fear, when something like that happens it just taps in to where we’re at,” said Mickschl. “And so we need to find ways to overcome that fear.”

Police told LEX 18 that one of the things that makes these kinds of scams possible is the amount of personal information we put on the internet.

To avoid becoming a victim of this scam and others like it, the FBI says look for these possible signs:

-International Numbers

-Calls not coming from the victim’s phone

-Callers who go to great lengths to keep you on the phone

-Ransom money is only accepted via wire transfer service

If someone is demanding payment of a ransom for a kidnapped victim, the FBI says:

-Try to slow down the situation and request to speak to victim directly

-Ask them to describe the victim

-Attempt to call, text, or contact victim via social media and ask the victim to call back from cell phone

-Don’t directly argue with or challenge the caller

Nicholasville PD recommends monitoring the information you put online, specifically on social media.

If you are the victim of the scam, please call the police.

The Attorney General’s Office is also asking that if you receive a call like this, please report it to the Office of Attorney General Consumer Protection hotline at 888-432-9257.
